Well hello and welcome... at least we know what to do with your presence
:kirky:

Jokes aside you will find a great deal of knowledge here and not just about tools and gear.
I recently started to re-read the scout books from my youth (YMCA in my case) I think those are a great collection of information for beginners and they seem to be available in all countries. On the plus side they don't teach you how to survive a volcano eruption while camping at the south pole but teach you a lot about your local environment.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Welcome to MTO!
I recomend reading Dave Canterburys Buschcraft 101.

Like Etherealicer said, there are quite a few topics on bushcrafting and gear to be found here. And dont be afraid to start a new thread with questions. We dont bite very hard. :D

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Greetings, I'd suggest starting a new topic with specific area of bush craft you are interested in.  There are some very bushcrafty people here with tons of knowledge.

Im not sure whats legal and not in the UK, but some of our UK members can probably answer that.

What do you want to make?
Do you have any experience using knives, axes, hiking, camping?

Welcome, can I suggest doing something practical?  Make a fire without matches or a lighter and then make something to hold your container of choice over said fire for a nice cup of tea. Plenty to learn just doing this simple task

That's a good one :)

Google "try stick" and have a go at carving one as you'll be doing all the bushcrafting cuts on one :)

That sounds like a plan! :tu:
I guess you could safely cut yourself a pice of wood in your local forrest to use for practice. Preferably a dead or dying sapling.
May I ask what knife you plan to use? We'd love to see pics of that. :)

What they said :)
Practice is the key in my opinion.

I think Dave Canterbury has a great resource on line ( videos ).  One piece of advice IMO is don't spend a lot on your bushcraft kit.  There are some really nice knives that wont break the bank as well as kit that is greta for practice.

Here is a nice video regarding knife safety and notching.

+1 :tu:

A Mora knife is a great cheap bushcraft knife.

Surplus stores can also supply you with a lot of OK gear, for very little money.
