Juice pro refurb
on: March 07, 2013, 02:12:30 AM
I recently acquired a busted Juice pro and I plan on fixing it myself as Leatherman does not repair these. They would just send me an XE6. I just want the pro for the coolness factor.

My question to you is: what is the best method for removing the rivets?

Here is what I have at my disposal

I would like to remove the rivets without destroying the scales

Those rivets are stainless steel if I'm not mistaken. A drill press is the best thing, unless you have a way to hold the drill real steady. Although I know a trick to help if you really want to use the drill. Since the rivets are rounded and slightly above the the surface of the scales. You can slowly grind a flat area with the grinder. That way the drill bit don't wander around. Also you will probably need several drill bits as stainless is a real pain the smurf to drill.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Yep they are stainless.  I did almost what you suggested.  Ground a flat spot, then attacked with a center drill in my press.  They were much harder to get apart than the SAK rivets.

I could do a lot of damage using my drill press  :ahhh another option is very gently grinding the top of the rivet off with a dremel if you have one
Then you can punch the rivet out with a drift (you can make a drift of the right size by grinding off a nail)

Just another option  :tu:

They do seem to be one of the trickier multis to get open!

Looking forward to seeing what you do though :tu:

Ya my S2 is still apart.  Someday I swear I'll finish that mod.  Those smurfing springs are such a pain to reassemble.

1/8th. You'll need to splice in some length, they only come in 1/2" lengths.
Why stop now?
