So it's called a Gerber MTP
on: April 06, 2008, 02:38:23 AM
While walking around at the biggest garage sale in America (Canton Texas) i saw a Gerber multitool i've never seen before. I bought it for 20 bucks new in the box with a leather sheath and paperwork inside. Looked to be a good deal considering it was made in the USA Gerber. Anyone EDC this one? How's it holding up?

Not real shiny like a Leatherman but i think it is not due to it being a military oriented tool and shiny things tend to get you dead in the field.

So you scored a Gerber MPT eh? That's pretty cool. Funny that a few other fellows here have gotten one in the past month or so as well. Definitely old-school construction isn't it? No fancy locking blades or stuff like that. First thing everyone seems to pick up on is the rolled handle edges. The MPT was made that way in response to the old Leatherman PST with its sharp handle edges. Do the handles on yours line up when the tool is closed? They are usually misaligned slightly. Not a big deal, but it bugs some folks.

There is some more pictures and technical info about the MPT at our Multitool Encyclopedia: https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=MPT

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I tried to EDC my MPT and I didn't last long.  It just had no snap whatsoever to any of the blades and I was not overly impressed with the tools finish either (I have a BO one).

Great tool selection though.  :)
I'm back!!
