Favorite LM and why?
on:
April 07, 2008, 02:39:46 AM
I would say that there are probably more of these around but I am pretty new to forum and just curious what everyones favorite is
I think that mine is the PST right now just because the simlpicity of tool and how effective it still is. But I just bought a LM Blast so I'll
if my opinion changes.

My favorite Leatherman? What day is it again?
Seriously, I have been enjoying the Skeletool lately, but I often gravitate back to the Charge Ti, in spite of it's discontinued/collectible nature. Had I been looking at it and the AL side by side though, I think I would have opted for the AL version based on cost, as the titanium really doesn't have any realistic benefit over the aluminum handles.
Of course, I have to admit that these autographed models from "The Man" himself are pretty darned close to the top of the list too!

My favorite LM would be the SURGE!! I like the SURGE because it is a LARGE and TOUGH MT platform. The SURGE has every implement that manufacturers leave out. Like an awl, serrated blade, file, scissors, stranded wire cutter, crimper, and I could go on and on.. I say this because in every multitool you have to make comprimises.. But, with the SURGE IMO, you have to make the least amount of sacrifces for tools.. Like the SwissTool X you lose the file, or the LM Charge XTI you lose scissors. The SURGE includes every tool that most MTs make sacrifices for.. What really wins me over is the one handed blades..The SURGE is the best MT in the universe and it would beat up any MT in a street fight!
I could go on and on about the SURGE.. But, I won't!

Surge looks like a great all around tool but how do you carry all that weight around? wish the blast had a diamond file would be a much better file choice and from what I have read on forum I am not the only one who thinks that. but I can use the file the blast comes with to sharpen my mason chisel. Still I would like to give the surge a whirl big or not.

Like parnass, the PST II,Micra, and Super Tool because of the USA on them, but LM123 has about got me convinced that the Surge might be the all around tool, because its the only MT that can resharpen itself, plus the knife blade and scissors are so easy to get to.

Mine is my BO Supertool, as it is built like a tank and being BO, looks awesome.
I see it as the only multitool in my collection to even slightly challenge my Swisstool (which I
love
BTW
).

My personal favourite is the Crunch due to the brilliantly designed mechanism in it, i love the way the thing is built and exectuted!
However the one that i would chose to pick up and use on an everyday basis would be the Wave (new style) A great combination of tools and the bit adapter makes it very versatile.

At the moment it's the Charge Ti but it changes by the week. It usually jumps around from the Surge to many others.

My favorite Leatherman tool is the Black Oxide Charge Ti.
I prefer it to the Charge TTI or Charge ALX because I don't like the crimper in the jaws of pliers on the TTI & the ALX. I don't have either the TTI or the ALX because of the crimper, but I do have a BO Kick with the crimper that was sent by mistake when I ordered one without the crimper. I once had a pair of needle nose pliers with the crimper and I hated it.
I like the BO because the black pocket clip & black tool seems less noticeable clipped to my pocket than the stainless version.
I could be equally happy with a BO Wave or BO Charge AL. The Charge Ti has better steel in the plain edge knife blade than the Wave, but this isn't an issue because I carry a Benchmade Griptilion knife with D2 steel as my primary knife.
The Leatherman Charge, Leatherman Wave and the Swisstool Spirit are the of size tool I prefer and have the tools I use. I also prefer multitools that have locks for all of the blades and tools.
I have carried the BO Charge as EDC for two or three years and both the tool and the Black Oxide have held up very well. You can see wear marks in the BO in the jaws of the pliers and the screwdrivers but otherwise the BO has held up better than I would have expected from what I've read on the forums.
I have also carried a Leatherman Micra for more years than I can remember and I like it because the sissors are great and it is small enough that it goes unnoticed until needed. Although I rarely use the knife blade on the Micra it does come in handy when I need a small blade.
These two tools do everything I need but I keep buying new tools for some reason.

Leatherman Charge XTi, nothing seems to bump it out of it's except fo the Wave ocassionally. Still looking forward to when I can get a Skeletool to rotate into my EDC, like with some other people on here, tool weight is an issue.

Skeletool Cx here also; as I'm starting to realize that the carabiner is very nice for keeping your EDCed items organized or in one 'clump' (as it may) until broken back up (and as mentioned before...it just plain
looks
good clipped to a pocket).

I like the Supertool and ST200 . I like that size tool the most . The PST is good aswell . I have yet to try a Core but should have one soon .
I love the Charge for sitting watching TV and playing with but couldnt get on with it in the real world , found it too gimmicky with the little changable bits .

Thanks again for all the feedback it helps but at same time adds to the wish list

When I carry my Supertool, I carry it with a Spartan and a Shortcut, or, together with my "Technogolfer" which is a custom SAK that can be seen here

The old Juice KF4 is my favorite... It's just a lot of tool in a small package IMO. I also like the Squirt P4 and Charge Ti. And the Crunch, Pulse, PST, Surge, Kick, etc. etc.

My EDC is a Charge Ti and a Squirt P4 on the keychain. The new Charges don't do as much for me, although the Skeletool has certainly got my attention. If only it had a saw it would be great for hiking.

Off subject a little here but Benner that is one great SAK I like the tool choice you chose no useless tools in there at all. The Technogolfer is a great all arounder.
never really been a sak kinda guy but around here it's getting me more use to the idea of having one.

i see the al selling for the same price as the charge models. seems like the charge was a better deal. I like the charge/wave the most.

The easy way is to meet the folks you want to sign your tools and ask them!
I have a PST signed by Mr Leatherman that I really should get around to giving away sometime...
Anyone interested in a PST autographed by the hand of the man himself?

Are you kidding that would be great, talk about a shelf queen. How do you get in on one the forums giveaways?
I salute you for the question
I love the PST anyways, love the simplicity of it yet it's affectiveness. Especially one signed by the hand of the inventor.
