broken Dime
on: April 03, 2013, 06:55:04 PM
Recently my Dime broke. More specific, the spring for the scissors. I think that would be covered by Gerber´s 25 year warranty. I have tried to contact them, but I have not yet received a reply.

Is their customer service any good?

on the other hand, maybe if I find another broken Dime, with working scissors, would the drop in be easy?

comments, thoughts?

I have used them once. Their warranty service is excellent, but it might take a few weeks with shipping and processing.  :tu:

Bah, that's a shame about the scissors  :( I'm a big fan of the dime, but they are very similar to the LM scissors on the Styls PS and Squirts, and we've seen this happen to them a few times on the forum too. I try not to use the scissors on my Dime for fear of that happening, so they're there for emergency use only whilst I rely on the scissors of whichever SAK I carry them with.

Gerber US warranty dept have never been tested by me, but they were disappointing in phone calls about the Balance, and the UK agents try to replace everything with the cheapest thing they can instead of like for like. They tried to replace a MP700 with an Evo, then actually replaced one with a MP400. Again, emergencies only in my book!

I used their warranty once and it took months. While leatherman and sog have filled their warranty claims in weeks. In my experience, 2 weeks at sog or leatherman is 10 weeks at gerber.

Is there a local importer of Gerber goods in Spain?  For example 'Silva' is the UK importer and all UK claims should be put to them rather than the USA.  Just a thought.

nah, they dont. I did put on  their website though that I was in Spain. The knife itself was bought over ebay, at a US based seller.
