Leatherman Wave pliers/wire cutter question
on: June 28, 2013, 03:40:31 AM
I have a question for the Wave owners. I just got one from Amazon, and I've noticed that the wire cutters rub together when closing pliers all the way, preventing completely smooth pliers operation. Instead, they "hit a bump" about 3/4 of the way closed. I can force them open/closed easily, but it bothers me. Has anybody else experienced this with his/her Wave? I assume it would loosen eventually, but I have 2 other Leatherman tools (Juice, Rebar) and neither of those has this issue. The pliers close perfectly with no rubbing of wire cutters.

Thanks. Hope for some good feedback.

i have a new wave and tho the wire cutters are very close and there is some "contact" they close without resistance.  the pliers open and close very smoothly and the tips are perfectly aligned.  i imagine the "contact" aids in cutting as any gap would bend the wire rather than cut it.  if you are experiencing the need to force open the pliers rather than what you have experienced with your other MTs then you may have a misaligned tool or defective head.  just my opinion as there are many others here with much more experience.

I have a Fuse that did that. Over time and use the friction on the wire cutters loosened up. Still snug and tight at the plier pivot with a smooth tight contact on the wire cutters.

Does it cut thin wire ok ? One test is if the wire cutters can cut paper , I've had a few waves that rub and I wouldn't worry about it ,, things loosen up over time , better to be tight then loose.

I agree with dunc  :tu: I've tightened a few MTs pliers on a anvil and they all cut paper now,so tights better than loose  :salute:
