Ratchet Set for Spirit...Do you use it?
on: April 14, 2008, 03:27:34 AM
Hi all,

as you probably know, I got a spirit just recently.  I'm considering getting the ratchet set with bits, etc.  I was wondering if anyone has this and if you actually use it?  is it engineered well and does it function efficiently enough to do around the house jobs?

thanks and take care,
Brett

It's actually pretty nice- it's rock solid and functional.  Well worth the few bucks for it.

thanks Def!  I really couldn't tell if the parts fit into the sheath comfortably or if you have to jingle around to get out the spirit.

Isn't there a wider sheath you need to get in order to fit the Spirit AND the ratchet set into it?

I believe so.  when I asked felinevet about it last night he said the set he has has a sheath that holds both the bits/ratchet and spirit.

Thanks Bob!  I am excited to try it out.

All the reviews seem to point to it being a very handy tool

The ratchet and the little bit kit it snaps into are beautiful pieces of work. Every bit as nice as the Spirit itself. However, the whole thing doesn't work so well without the little ratchet extension piece, as I found out. I'm wondering where a fellow can buy one seperately?

I called swiss army of america and they said they do not sell the ratchet seperatly but they do sell the bit wrench seperatly. this was a while ago though.

Yeah, you want to make sure you get both the ratchet and the little extension thingy. When inserted into the ratchet it works great both with the bit inserted into it and the bit inserted into the end of the ratchet. Without the extension, it does not work as well in either configuration.

My point exactly! Thanks for summing that up Alexei  :)

Well, I took your advice guys.  I decided to not get the ratchet and instead got the swisschamp on FV's site.  Can't wait to get it.

Thanks for all your input,
Brett

I was just thinking, if you are not stuck on getting "OEM" Vic extension, a $2-3 magnetic bit holder (for use in cordless drills) should do nicely...

I have had the extension bar on back order with Vic now for several months with no luck. Sorry.

$15 for that little extension? Hmmm, I'm starting to like Alexei's suggestion even more:

I agree it was to much. I have several dewalt and other brand extensions but they wablle in the ratchet and wrench I hope the extension is a better fit.
