Yesterday, I EDC'd an older ribbed Alox Cadet.

The tip had a slight bend to it, but no big deal (or so I thought).  Cutting through a box, the tip snapped off!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

When I got home, I decided to reprofile the tip, by removing as little metal as possible.  Although a little ugly, it seems to function pretty well now:

Reprofile:

High power of the tip:

Comparison to another ribbed Alox 84mm (Bantam I think)

Surprisingly, having to reprofile the tip has been sort of liberating.  It's no longer "Original" and can be freely used as EDC without worry.  :)

ohh thats painful  :ahhh

This is why I usually grind the keyrings off my alox knives.  I don't use lanyards, and modding them makes me feel OK about using them  :D
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

I just tried to straighten a explorer main blade I got at a flea market. The tip snapped off. I filed an equal amount from the front and back of the blade. Looks as good as new.

Ouch! I think, as was mentioned, that a little more work on the knife edge with the sharpening stones and a little file work on the back of the blade, you could reshape it like new. I've done it before and used a marker pen to draw the shape, then filed down until the desired shape was reached.

 :facepalm:

That's why you can't have nice things.  :P

Let us know if you decide to reprofile it even further.

 :ahhh It's got character now. Personally, I'd try to restore the pointy end.
Other than for table use, I think tipless knifes are a royal pain   :wait:

oh dear.  ::)
Would Victorinox replace the main blade with the same type if you sent it back to them?  :think:
