Rusted damascus
on: April 11, 2013, 07:33:33 AM
4 days out at sea and using my charge constantly, the Damascus blade couldn't quite take the salty environment, rusted beyond recognition . Looks like I'll be better of switching back to the original s/s blade.   :(

Was this one of the blades that company sells on their own?  Carbon damascus is pretty cheap to buy, but stainless steel is pricy.  Too bad though but ya that blade needs a cleanup, sand, polish and re-etch now to restore it.

Don't think the postage cost from here will justify your buying from me, I think it would be cheaper for you to buy direct from TTC. Thanks for the offer though. Btw, i still have the original s/s blade.  :D  :salute:

Yeah, I have a nice damascus pendant which is obviously high enough carbon to rust a little.

Won't mind it that much if its just a little rust every now and then, but I find that this blade needs a lot of care for my usage. Too time consuming. Anyway, soaked it in vinegar and cleaned it up abit, look fairly decent now, will leave it as it is for now.  :D  :tu:

Looks a lot better already, but yes I can see it being a pain to look after if that's how easily it rusts!
