USS Lexington ( CV-16) @ Corpus Christi Texas
on: April 28, 2013, 10:23:32 PM
While out traveling for work last week a few of us decided to go see the USS Lexington WW2 aircraft carrier. Took us 7 hours to explore the ship and we still missed a chunk of it. I took over 200 pics..some random shots i thought were interesting. My back was killing me at the end of the day. The ship is no place for anyone over 6 foot. Had to crouch the whole way almost to keep from busting my head open.

I have lots more pics if anyone wants a more detailed look.

we went on a tuesday morning so we pretty much had the whole ship to ourselves. I can't imagine being a sailor and work deep in the ship. Lights go out or water starts coming in. Freak out mode. Guessing they are well trained in escape paths and ship saving ways. As for me i'd want a cyanide capsule on myself for just in case.  :P

I enjoyed your photos Pacu. That is something I could easily see myself getting lost on exploring and all. :)

Nice pics  :tu:
I've been on HMS Belfast moored in London, which is probably only a fraction  of the size - but still very interesting  :tu:

Very nice!  :tu:  I've been aboard the USS Intrepid (CV-11), which is a museum in NYC.  It's also an Essex-class carrier from World War II.  Once during Fleet Week I also got to go aboard the USS John F. Kenndey (CV-67) and HMS Illustrious.  The Intrepid made the Illustrious look like a toy, and the Kennedy was just massive!
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D
