Wenger pliers on a 91mm Vic Frame
on: March 27, 2014, 11:28:30 AM
This is part of a current job.

Goal: Get a wenger pliers on a Vic 91mm frame.

How I did it:

First though was to use an old scissor spring (without backtool). This is my standard spring for special jobs since it gives you enough flexibility for adding tools.

However the pliers itself was a bit thicker than the old scissor spring and there was too much work to be done (grinding etc.) So I decided to use a standard pliers spring instead

I marked with a textmarker the parts to be removed (just around the middle pin of the spring) and used an old broken scissor to get a distance-holder.

Here is the result

and here is a mockup of a final knife (which will be shown soon)

What I forgot to mention:

the Vic pliers spring however is a little bit thicker than the wenger pliers. So you need a spacer.

Only partially related to this thread, but as you seem to like visible rivets: Shall I include solid scales (used, of course) when I send you my stuff for modding?

And great work on the fat SAK!

I like that. :tu:

Good ideas and the tool selectionon that double barreled Cybertool mod is interesting. Why both styles of pliers? And how accessible is the scissors nail nick between the two CT layers?

The two cybertools is part of the current discussion. When it's just about the additional bits, I would consider an external bitholder. But is there a cool one?

Two pliers -> nearly the same. This toolset is the maximum what was wanted. I think we end up with one or two layers less.

I like how you're making the wenger parts fit on 91s!  I really appreciate you sharing!

I only did wenger pliers on a 93, and only one time. I had to grind a nail nick in the side to be able to open it.

Yes, I remember that knife especially that nail nick. Great work!

I know that knife make have special discs for their Dremel to cut such nail nicks (saw it with that french guy who makes damascus soldiers). I was a bit afraid of trying it my own. So i decided to do it my way.

@lowtech: I forgot. The scissor between two cybertools is quite acessible. However, another tool between them might be an even better idea. ;-)

The trick with using a dremel to make a nail nick is to not use a cutting disk, wrong tool.  Use a diamond cylinder burr.

Hold it on an angle and grind a nice hollow.  Then I just used sandpaper to smooth it up.  Try it on some scrap first :D  I tried cutting disks first and it really doenst work well.
