Well this was a steal.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Victorinox-Officer-Knife-exposed-Rivets-Box-84mm-Pre-1960-1946-/251273119090

$100

I'd much rather have this than any of the modern limited edition alox knives.

I didn't bother bidding cause it seemed like it was US shipping only.

Funniest part is they are both wrong. The asker of the question much, much more spectacularly than the seller. The seller says:

Quote
This company has been around since 1896 and quit using just "Victoria" markings in the late 40's

This is wrong. Victorinox used "Victoria" on tang stamps until the early 1970s (1974 is typically cited as the change over date). The knife in question is from the mid 1950s.

I didn't bother bidding cause it seemed like it was US shipping only.

Our new collector Jimylee in China won this one as well. My guess is he has someone in the US forwarding for him.

I think the important word in the response was "just"; so i think he was closer to right than wrong. It seems "VICTORIA" was banished from the obverse side long before the 70s; right?

It's pretty easy to buy from Ebay and have a US address to ship to.  I use shipito which gives me a California address (cheaper shipping from there) and an Oregon address (no sales tax) - they can forward on a package or consolidate multiple packages for a nice saving in shipping cost.

I've even had a forum give-away sent to my shipito address and then I consolidated that with 4 or 5 other orders and sent on to me here in New Zealand.

Having a USA address is pretty useful.
