Is this a kind of shill bidding?
on: May 21, 2013, 03:11:06 AM
Since three days ago we have some unsual alox Saks in Ebay, all auction have in common a kind of high starting bid,
Same bidder start and later retracts the bid and them the auction is closed by the seller, don't know if is a way to attract other bidders, what do you thik? Is very strage...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121113644600?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m142.com3.l2649

Here we have a very commond SAK , there are 2 or 3 auctions rigth now with buy now for less than 80.00

This one the same case, a common SAK with active auctions open for much less money, the bidder retracts the bid and minutes later is closed by the seller.

Could be a price pushing thing, but if they don't actually sell for that price I don't see what purpose it serves.

The bidder is a recent well known high bidder. I'm guessing he has made a deal to buy direct from the seller which has some harder to find models, and has always charged a significant premium.

ebay has turned into a safe haven for scammers unfortunately. Wish an alternative would come along.

One thing I have seen is where the seller closes the auction early and cancels all the bids and then relists it later. Personally I think it is to expose the high bids to see if the seller thinks it will sell high enough for them. I always re-bid with half of what I had before to discourage this kind of activity.  >:(

I'm aware of EDCSource. I was thinking more of an alternative to ebay like say.. google auctions for all types of goods because ebays monopoly allows them to screw sellers over and charge whatever they want and completely disregard scams and scam attempts directed from the buyer which is becoming more common because the ebay fat-cats know that there's no other options.
