Bit kit/Removable bit driver- bit holder mod
on: March 17, 2013, 07:27:41 PM
I don't carry my Juice S2 or Wave that often, but when I do, I don't use a sheath. I needed a way to carry the bits comfortably in my pocket.

I used a Dremel tool to remove the bottom corners of the bit holders so they could be banded together face to face with o-rings. I used a #9 o-ring for the top and a #10 for the bottom. This keeps them together in my pocket and the holders cover any sharp edges on the bits.

It also allows the holders to remain separate so I could slide one into a sheath along with the tool if I wanted to. Between the driver card and one of the bit kit cards, I can carry close to the whole set of LM bits leaving out only a few that would probably never get used.

How long have you been using this mod, and how's it working out for you?

Since November last year and it works well.  I don't use the bits all that often so I don't know how the O rings would hold up to taking the cards apart multiple times a day. I have taken them apart for use a couple times a week since then and so far so good.

Not unless I want them off. The bottom of the cards would be shaped perfectly for this if Leatherman would have nipped the corners off the way I did.

Nice mod :tu: Do you have any problems with the bits coming out in your pocket? I have three bit cards I have with my Charge Ti that I put in my seat bag on my bike. The bits always fall out on mine so I had to tape them in.

Only one of the bits fits a little loose but hasn't fallen out. I did notice that some bits fit differently in different slots on the cards. I rearranged them for the tightest fit.
I could see how bouncing around in a bike bag would be an different story though.

I'm always looking for room to improve and was curious if you found a better way to contain them

I slightly heated the loose slots and then when it was soft, pushed it in so the fit would be tighter.

Never thought of that. I'll try it when I get back from Indy.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but just wanted to confirm that this works and say thanks for the suggestion. I dipped the bit holder in hot water (just off the boil) for a few seconds and then pushed the plastic in and held it for a few seconds to cool. Worked like a charm.  :tu:
