Victorinox Rescue Tool
on: May 31, 2013, 02:24:43 PM
Anyone own both the Rescue  :tool: and the new Swiss Army or German army issue  :sak: ?
Apart from the can opener (which I really miss with my Leatherman BTW) and the glass beaker, are they pretty similar as far as useability.

Quite different actually. To me the Rescue Tool is more of a specialized multi tool while the Soldier/Trekker is more of a SAK. Replaceable glass saw and glass breaker, heavy duty safety belt cutter versus wood saw and can opener. The lockable large blade, prying tool/large flat screwdriver and Philips are the same. I like them both personally, very much. Soldier and fireman  :2tu:

i got a rescue tool just last weekend, and am now awaiting a 'forrester'  :mail:
i was going to try and do a comparison/review, when it arrives.
but so far the rescue tool is a bit of a disappiontment TBH. fit and finish are not as good as i have come to expect from Victorinox  >:(
and for a 'civvy' there is just wayy too much serrated cutting blade. cant see me using the 'glass breaker' (fingers crossed) and if you remove it, it can just be pulled out, the rear spring then has no tention and the Awl isn't very sturdy !
BUT the 'glow-in-the dark' scales are VERY cool  :multi:

Taxi when you say too much serrated do you mean the rescue blade, the main blade or both?
I must say I am not a huge fan of serrated these days myself.

I wish the 'main blade' was plain edge !
the rescue blade is fine serrated.
and the 'saw' blade is almost a serrated blade for cutting glass/plastic/metal etc.
