What is it worth?
on: June 15, 2013, 01:46:58 PM
A difficult question, since everthing depends on a word ... "value" which is influenced by sooo much things.

Look at this 1980's 3.3600 spartan which is absolutely NIB but with slightly damaged box:

It's absolutely worth for a collection, unfortunately I don't collect. ;)

So many views, but no comments? ;)

Is it good enough to keep and wait 30 years (even if I don't collect)?
Should I sell it for 1US$ and don't think about it anymore?

I have no experience with such a youngtimer...

I think that if it is a model you could see yourself using for EDC, I would say use it.

If it isn't something you would carry, then move it along to someone who perhaps needs that model to fill a empty slot in their collection. I don't really know, but that particular model doesn't strike me as having a large collector following. So I'm not sure how much profit you could flip it for.

Strictly my opinion, as I don't really collect either, I usually just get models I think i may carry. Or as backups for my EDC since down the road I may lose it or something and want a replacement on deck.

I would search ebay completed listing for something similar.  At a guess though Id say slightly more than a regular spartan, but not much.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

I already searched, but a spartan is quite a common knife. But slightly above Spartans costs is what I think, too.

I believe this is actually is not a spartan but a standard. A standard is the same as a spartan but has no keyring or scale tools. Although spartans of this era also had no scale tools. See here under variations

Actually a bit of a grey-area I think, being part of the economy series, I don't think they were ever referred to as Spartans or Standards.  I'd have to research it again, as I can't remember exactly.  While the Standard appears to have never had a keyring (maybe because of its military linkage), The Spartan configuration (the standard SAK config) has been produced without keyrings but usually as part of a special run or promotional model. Since the economy series for a while didn't have T&T you get something that looks like a Standard.
