Wrench to disassemble LM Tools
on: June 15, 2013, 03:30:31 PM
Had a slightly misaligned tension bar on the scissors in my Blast tool. If I had the proper tool or wrench to disassemble the Blast I could have fixed the problem in short order. Lacking the proper tool, I sent the Blast back to LM for warranty repair. I would like to find out how to obtain a wrench or tool that fits the multi pointed star type nuts that hold LM tools together. Any info would be much appreciated! :multi:

Two disclaimers:

1) Disassembling your LM tools voids the warranty.
2) It's easy to muck up the looks and even the function of the tool by doing so.

That said, here are a couple other threads on the topic:

You can do it easily with two pairs of smaller sized linesman pliers. The key is the heat up the pivots precisely without melting the zytel handle liners. I would recommend a soldering iron tip for about 10-15 seconds to loosen the red factory loctite.
Why stop now?

The absolutely perfect tool for those screws is Leatherman Squirt pliers.
Don't try to grab the head "from the top", instead lay them flat and grab the bolt from the side. You will notice that the teeth on the Squirts pliers align perfectly with teeth/groves on the screw's head working like a wrench.
Absolutely no slipping or damage to the bolt. Just keep in mind that the femail end won't spin in the handle.
