Gerber compatibility questions and modding plans
on: June 17, 2013, 02:07:41 PM
Some of you might alöready know that teh MP 600 is my tool of choice.
Until i met you i was happy as could be with my basic MP 600

Now i know of the different versions and would like to create my perfect one (or a few task specific ones, maybe)

My questions are:

Is there a comprehensive list showing MP 600 variations and listing their tools?

Would anyone mind doing a Diesel/MP 600 comparison shot and can tell if the tools will interchange?

A few bits i can tell you:

The MP 600 and 400 series tools are interchangeable (not all long 600 tools may fit into teh 400 chassis, though)
The Strata uses the same pivot design and offers some different tools, for example the saw, longer blade
(needs work because of the thumbstud) or the double- opener too.

The Evo uses the same pivots, too, although i found not many tools i would want to add to a MP 600. But it has thicker washers (those with teh nose)to fit between tools, so it might be useful for spacers when
you mix different tools. I think, this means the Suspension etc. will use teh same Pivot, too.

I am working at incorporating the Strata´s blade into a MP 600.

I want to use the Stratas double use tool (screwdriver and clmshell opener), too in favor of the screwdriver / bottle opener currently in the MP 600. I will open a bottle with nearly any tool, but a clamshell opener sounds sweet.

The blade will be OHO, but the main point is that the Thumbstud will indicate where the blade is on a symmetrical tool. I gain a bit of length, too. I´d like to find a nice, long PE blade which i can incorporate there, maybe combined with a SE from an old MP 600, but for now the combo blade will do.

Sits perfectly in the handle.

with the cutout in the handle for the thumbstud: (Blurry, but you get the idea...)

Feedback? Ideas? Informations? :gimme:

Looks like a great project mate.  There is an older thread where we listed a good number of the MP600 models, but I don't think we even got close to listing them all.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Thank you for bumping the other thread!
I hope to be able to add less bad pictures and some progress here soon.

I shure do hope so.
I am awaiting an MP 600 ST and am already looking for a BO scissor, file and maybe Awl.
If all goes as planned, the Carbon scraper and Sight tool will be replaced with tools i do use on a regular basis.

I am surprised that we haven't seen a "next generation" of the MP600, built around the MP600 ST format.

I'd be mildly interested in that....  ::)
