Spreading the love
on: July 02, 2013, 01:42:44 PM
I went to Ohio this past weekend for my nephew's graduation. I posted some time back that I had been considering getting him a multitool. Having been unable to decide on a model, I just took all of mine, and let him pick one (minus my Spirit X). He selected the Wenger Evo S17 (which I received from Enki). My other relatives were looking at the remaining tools, so I asked my sister if she'd like one. She selected my Vic Recruit (which I got from Jersey Devil). My oldest brother took my Gerber Dime, and my oldest nephew took my Vic OHO Trekker. I'd feel bad about the trekker, but he's in the military, and I hope he uses the heck out of that thing.

I hope they all get a lot of use from them. It also thinned my pile of tools down some now, so hopefully the next time I want a new one my hubby will be more receptive to the notion.

I kind of feel like a Multitool Missionary. "Have you heard of the benefits of carrying a good multitool?"

Or maybe it's more like being a dealer. "Hey, yo. Try this fine multitool. The first one's free!" :D

I did. They didn't seem as enthused as I am, but I'll give them some time to get the addiction.

Again, sincere thanks for the Wenger Evo S17. It has a new home now, and someone who will, I hope, use it for daily carry.

No problem. A version of the 17 (with classic scales and without the lock was my EDC all through high school and way into my twenties, 12 years in total so hopefully he'll enjoy it too. ;)

That's extremely generous of you Lynn. :salute:  Though I have given SAKs and MTs as gifts many times over the years, I cannot remember ever giving away one that was "mine". :-[

haha, Lynn's working her way up the chain from user to enabler and now pusher...

Who says MT's aren't an addiction?

but seriously, nice work.  I gave my brother my PST when I got a Wave and recently gave him a Wood scaled Wenger Commander for his birthday. Gave my g/f a ClassicSD for her handbag, a Spartan to one of my mates and a Custom 74mm to another friend.

It does feel good to "spread it around".

I've probably given away a dozen MT's away in the last 10 years.  I have little doubt that most of them are collecting dust right now.  Too bad, with very few exceptions (A Winchester gift box I gave my FIL who I knew would never use it) they were all quality tools.  The lone exception is the Micra I gave my SO, she uses it regularly but the PST and Juice I gave her languish in the bottom of her purse or in a desk drawer.

Honestly, I think Micra's are the best gift to get someone started in the MT addiction.  Good quality, very usable and not expensive or rare enough to cry when it's turned into a rusted ball of garbage in the glovebox of their car.  A Vic Classic might be better as they're more rust resistant than anything Leatherman produces these days.

Very generous of you Lynn, and a good way to plant the seed of addiction ;)  I can't say that I would be that generous, or at least not with that many people.  I don't have much that I would be willing to part with, so it would be tough :P

My oldest brother is a ex-marine/SWAT/martial arts instructor. I was SUPER shocked that he didn't carry anything. No knife, no Vic Classic, nothing. He seemed to instantly fall in love with the Gerber Dime. Mostly for the bottle opener, I think.
