Aloha's Fleamarket Finds (pictures)
on: August 26, 2013, 01:10:48 AM
so the larger fleamarket was great and all but im not looking for newer things to buy.  I want to dig through buckets and look through peoples wares to find what I deem treasure.  I ended heading back to my usual fleamarket and I had a great day.

1st up was a Victorinox Swisstool. they definitely got used and used well as the pliers are very loose but not sloppy. the main pen blade is a tad bent at the tip and the chisel is not sharp at all.  the smallest screwdriver is twisted and the finish on the outside shows it was a used tool.  I am very happy with it and for $20US I wont complain.  Looks to be the newer plier head and it came with a random sheath.

2nd tool find was a 01/13  01/13 dated leatherman wave with leather sheath and maglight solitaire.  this tool was in great shape other than the main blade which is missing the very tip and it has a nick towards the tip.  all other implements are in great shape and the light worked too.  this was a great find and this was snagged for $25.  the blade is fine as a secondary blade is always carried anyway and im sure with some patience it can be improved.

3rd tool find was a gerber but I don't know the name.  I was guessing mp400 BO but im not sure.  it looks like it has seen work and all implements are in fine shape the finish is worn nicely. for $17US I think I did good.

the wave goes to my friend and ill carry the swisstool starting Tuesday and see what the fuss is about.

a couple of turns of a allen got the implements all tightened on the gerber. it could use a good cleaning but I wait to do that later.  the pliers come out fast and it rattles which I quite like.

yeah I had a great day tho I was totally bummed at the 1st fleamarket but that was only cause I was looking for old stuff not new things.  there was a vender with great knives and multi's but all new and at newish prices.  I like the hunt and the haggling.

now that is a Vic id be very stoked to have found. the vics I see are normally pretty beaten.  I did see a ranger but the lame vender said he paid $150 bucks and wanted same.  I was like ok what model is your Vic and he said I don't know I just know I paid $150 for it. ok buddy what ever moving along now. I really like that SAK you got there fish scaler and all.  for some strange reason I am a sucker for the SAKs with saws and especially like the ones with both saw and metal file/saw an best of all it has a mag glass.  great score

it took me a few hours to get this one working.  the main blade was the only free blade when I bought it.

it did not look that nice when I found it.

I am stoked to have found it

..... I was looking for old stuff not new things.

You certainly found that with your "Mr Pinchy" (a.k.a.as a multi-plier). Yours looks like quite an old version from the pliers and the screws holding the sliding mechanism.  Also the BO finish is much less common that the SS finish.  A good score  :tu:

glad you got the old girl working again.  it is satisfying bringing life back into them and especially putting them back into service.

ill take a picture of the internal mechanism as it was odd looking to me when I picked it up.  the BO is well worn and as such give this Mr Pinchy real character.  id love to know an approximate date on this one for curiosity sake.  is there any good way to "date" these?  im gonna have a look around MTo as well as the interwebs for my own sake.  I really like this tool a lot.

thank you so much Gregozedobe, from the looks of it I have what closely matches a 4th generation with the round nut on each handle.  the black oxide wore very well on this much used tool and the pliers still come out wicked fast.

I'll just add to this one each time I find something cool.  BTW I just found something COOL!!!

Gshock GW1500A module 3366 Solar Atomic $15 at a thrift store. This one has a broken band so ill have to replace it which makes this the most expensive one I have to date ( $35 ) when its all said and done. Its seen a good amount of usage and the color is all but gone from the writing on the bezel. Ill post up pictures soon as I take a few.

Sweet. I havent had a watch since my teens. I think it was a timex expidetion with the indiglow back light. Whats the appeal of the G-shocks? Are they a kick ass watch?

The appeal for me is looks and the toughness.  These watches are used by special forces military units worldwide and some models are NASA qualified and have been in space. I look at my watch much like we look at our flashlight, SAKs, MTs, Blades and everything else we carry.  I don't want to serve my tools I need them to serve me and GShocks are well tested.

These watches are also very much collected with some models fetching a tidy sum.  I think they look pretty awesome and there is sure to be a color or model that will suit most anyone.  Ive been lucky to have gotten mine for what ive paid as most are in the $100 and up range.

Very interesting. A watch with a back story like that deserves a try by anyone. Thanks for the info.

quick trip to fleamarket netted some Gshocks.
I saw a large font LM that was pretty wasted so I passed as well I saw a Blacktip that looked like a blacktip gnawed on it so I also passed.  nothing in the way of tools but im always stoked to find great looking Gshocks even if they are baby g's and for $28US for all 3 not too shabby.

$25 wave is a good deal yes, he wanted $35 but I put the tool down and said thank you then he said what about $25 and badda bing.

@monrogue,  so far so good. I have been taking my time looking over the rubble and going regularly which is key.  I pass on a lot of stuff as some sellers are like fleabay sellers and want silly prices.  some sellers however just want to move stuff along and we generally meet in the middle.  if the watches have working batteries the sellers want top dollar I have a guy that puts them in really cheap or I can do it myself so watches with dead batteries go cheaper.

Yeah, I so wish there were big fleamarkets around here >:(.  It sounds like something I would enjoy, but I'm not a big fan of yard sales, so I'm not sure.  I know it's not quite the same thing, and there's a lot more stuff to look through that is probably more interesting than your typical yard sale.  It sounds like you just never know what treasure you may find :D

I haven't ventured into yard sales but im sure its nearly the same. the FleaMrkt is just one big yard sale with loads of "stuff".  its pretty fun to look at all the stiff offered and the best part is the hunting and digging though all the loads of bins and tables.  I have a few venders that ive make regular contact with also.  they know what im looking for and about what im willing to pay.  im trying to stay at $30 and under for tools and $20 and under for Gshocks though ive been getting them for $3-$10 bucks. its great fun even if I am not as lucky as on other days.

Whenever I go to flea markets the best I see are crappy Chinese crap knives.  I obviously need to frequent a better class of flea market.
