JA,s OHT challenge.
on: August 29, 2013, 06:15:01 PM
The challenge is going to be how long this review /topic is going to last. I do have a fairly nice tool collection I like to use but I'm down to using only one hand as I broke my left index finger
we will see how long it takes until I switch back to my old habits of carrying a different tool almost every day.

we are on day 2 of me using the oht as my only multitool I'm going to use.

I'm going to try keep track of how much I use it and what for. With pics when I can.

its a very well made tool is about all I can say about it so far.

I have not used it yet but she is on my belt ready to go.

I've been using a shovel and that's about it yesterday and so far today.

I hope its as good a tool as it looks.

:)

Lunch Break update

well the oht got its first and second use

the first was opening a door held close with a Phillips screw.
I was a little unsure of the almost 3d Phillip but it works.

the second task it seen was using the blade to make a pointer steak
it worked well.

Arn't you supposed to name the tool before the torture begins?

I guess I didn't think about a name for her.

I know she's a she .

here are some more pics while I'm on break.

I used the blade to cut a water bottle in half to make a scoop to empty water from a tire I'm going to put on a dump truck.

I also used the pliers to hold on to a hot pully key while I ground it down to fit in a lawn mower.

I'm really liking the one hand opening of all the tools. Makes using it easy :)

I took off from work a little early today so I can try get my own lawnmower running.

I used the large flat driver to remove the air cleaner so I can look at the carburetor.

well see if I can get her running again. I can't figure out what is wrong with it.

Nice thread JA :tu:  I look forward to how the OHT works for you, but I hope your finger heals quickly.  Personally I don't think the OHT is for me due to it's size and it just doesn't look like one that I would care for.  I'm glad it's helpful to you though, and I am interested to see how you treat it ;)

Thanks Man

It is a large tool but I usually carry a Vic swisstool or sog powerlock to work so it's size doesn't bug me any and its got to be a bit lighter . Feels like it to me anyway :P

I swear, my first reaction when I saw that pic was "that's a nice looking awl", then it's "no wait, OHT doesn't have an awl, oohhhh right that's the knife".

Good job so far. I think you're one of the first people to put the OHT through its paces and not just write it off as terrible.

well it may not be the perfect tool  I think it's still a dam good one.

the only fault I have with it so far is its lack of a file.

it could also use a scissors but I can live without them. I can back it up with a micra or sak with a scissors. The file is not so easy to get by without.

all and all I'm still very happy with the oht.

I really like this thread. A Leatherman being used for jobs that i would encounter! No IEDs, C4, ARs etc. Plus i lost the use of my left hand for a year so the OHT is a great idea, believe me ive been there! The irony of my left thumb being held togther with titainium plate as i tried in vain to open my Charge Tti was funny; now i look back! yeah, i want to see more of this.

I'm happy your following farrierphil

yeah I'm afraid this oht won't be seeing any warzones LOL

I'm installing a new mobile home today so I'm not sure how much Il use the oht but its on my belt if I need it.

I did use the pliers this morning to tighten a battery clap. I didn't get a pic but here she is on one of the work trucks resting.

I myself also wasn't sold on the oht. For its size I think it should have more tools.

that being said. I'm almost impressed with the oht. I got one out of need not want and its been a great tool so far.

I figured I would dislike the oht but for what it is" a all one hand opening tool" its not bad at all.

all the tools are super easy to get at and very well thought out" lay out wise".
