Stgw 57 Bayonets
on: September 09, 2013, 09:28:22 AM
I acquired these two a while ago...

According to Worldofbayonets website the production of the blades was split 50-50 between Victorinox and Wenger... The W on the tang stamp would mean these are Wenger made?

That is my understanding as well.  I have one of each that I got from Felinevet a while ago. They are pretty cool pieces!

Definitely, they must have been sitting in some storeroom long time til they went to the surplus store i bought em from... I don't consider 25 euros a piece a bad price either (but that may be just me)

They are indeed wonderful works of industrial art. I just can't help but stalling on the fact that when the order to "fix bayonets" is heard, you know are in a world of smurf, and not the tra-la-la kind.

Thanks for taking the time to repost old pictures that Photobucket so unceremoniously nuked.

And those are some stunningly beautiful bayonets.

Beautiful bayo's!
In the Nineties I have seen thousands of them. They were for sale at the Swiss Army "Liq Shops" (Liq = Liquidaton). There were many of these shops in Switzerland. At that time they cost about 10-15 dollars and were stored in large crates. If you would buy a thousand, prices were very low. The Swiss didn't know what to do with these bayonets. As you can understand, I did not buy a single piece! Thought they still were too expensive...

Well, if anyone of you wants one, there seems to be few left on Varusteleka's shelves:

The price has almost doubled in between the years, but hey

Enablers.

After looking at your cool bayonets I hunted one down and drug it home. It's a Victorinox.

I also think that yours is older, since you have a leather carrier, mine came with green rubber/plastic ones  :salute:
