Any Pak-lite users out there?
on: August 24, 2013, 08:01:34 PM

I've read a few reviews about Pak-lites and its all been pretty positive really, so much so that I've ordered one :)

Any thoughts on what I've got to look forward to ???

I think I've got three. Mine's the basic model with a single light level in white with GITD plastic. As a fan of the 5mm LED Mike, yer gonna love it  :D Imagine a square Gerber tempo that'll run for over 20 hours, and you're on the right lines

That was my thinking :D

I ordered the ultra as that had the longest runtime, and I'm a sucker for that!

I can blame Thomas for that one

My reference to second hand 9V's was if you change your fire alarm batteries every year they still have some juice left in them  ;)

Its a shame there are so few 9v torches out there really, as you can only imagine what Fenix, Nitecore ect could come up with in that format :)

I've had the same thought myself Mike.  Maybe not a huge capacity if used hard, but with 9V to play with you'd think someone, other than the couple of companies mentioned in this thread, would have come up with something special for a 9V cell.

We should give Tofty a  :pok:

Square 9V please Peter  :salute:

(The only problem is how robust are the torch connections? I don't think you can beat springs in the long term)

I have several Pak-lites as well.  :tu:

One of them lives attached to the fridge with a magnet, so there's always a flashlight SWMBO always knows where is too. :D

http://www.safe-light.com/store/safe-light-handyman-led-flashlight.html

I use a pak-lite as a night light in our home hallway (running off ex-smoke alarm batteries).

I have given away several safe-lights to people as camping lights and they are very (very) popular, the always-on locator glow allows you to find it quickly in the dark.  Good batteries will last up to 2 years of locator glow so that isn't too shabby.

I have several safe-lights scattered around the house in strategic locations as emergency lights in case of night time power failure.

The handyman model is slightly bulkier (different casing).  I have one, but I rarely turn off the locator glow as I find the locator glow too useful.

The safe-light will run (for a short time) on a battery that is no longer producing useful light in a pak-lite, but if you want a small, compact light the pak-lite is about as small as you get in anything that has a bigger battery than a coin-cell.

I've had one of these lowtech was selling not too long ago for 2 or 3 years now. Great backup lights, very reliable. Not much difference in output between the 2 or 6 LED modes though. (pics borrowed from his FS thread)

I've seen models where the middle two LEDs were replaced by UV LEDs. :tu: The only ones I could find with a quick ebay search are these http://www.ebay.com/itm/400410743655

9V format or 5mm LED format? :P

The 5mm love drew me to this one.

I'd expect a Pak-lite to be very reliable, as all it has is a switch (with gold plated contacts) and a couple of resistors.  Over at CPF a few people have been making their own versions so they can save some money, use the particular LEDs they prefer and fine tune the illumination levels (and current draw).

well thanks to you lot I've just ordered one of these. ::)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310723983489?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

and it's finally arrived.  Well, kind of. ;)  What I actually received is one of the 4xWhite 2xUV LED's that Enki mentioned.  I have to say that I'm not complaining though, the 4 normal LEDs are just fine for what this torch is intended for IMO, and the UV light is a nice gimmick that I didn't have before. :)

I would be happy for such a mix-up. :D I think the nes with UV LEDs usually cost a bit more and it's nice to have an extra feature. I may grab one myself. :D
