Video editing ....
on: September 16, 2013, 01:09:37 AM
I'm looking for free software to do the following ....

Starting with .MTS files, convert them into something that'll play freely on most viewers, and also edit them and overlay an audio track. If this would need to be two separate programs, that's fine  :)

Any suggestions?

Not familiar with the file formats, but videopad is a pretty good free editor.

What operating system are you using Al?

*edit- I also would like to know if you're on a 32bit or 64bit processor.

Did you try searching open source software sites to find one that opens that extension?

Windows Vista 32 bit processor on my desktop Terry, although if that is a crippling problem my laptop would probably be better but I'd have to go dig it out and fire it up to find out.

Kind of, but thought I'd ask here first before throwing a pile of half cooked software on my machine  :D Recomendations for best sites to look at?

I know it is not free, but I do recommend trying the Adobe premiere.  Pretty powerful software, and I am sure I haven't used it to its full capacity.  But for my little youtube project, it is doing a really good job.

Here are a video that I made using premiere:

Premier requires a 64 bit system. Adobe Creative Cloud has a free 30 day trial and you get to try all their software free for 30 days. I'm sure there's something in there that will work.

Not used it, but it was top of google search. Very small download as well.

You should be able to find some reviews as well to help you decide which one is best to use.  Open source is usually the best bet for free software. :)
