Victorinox pliers wire cutters

Anyone know what the wire cutters on the small victorinox pliers(the type on the champ) are like. Has anyone tried cutting anything harder with them like fencing wire?

if you use the sort of fencing wire that's springing to my mind, I wouldn't attempt it with anything less than a full size MT and would really want something like a Rebar with the replaceable cutters.

What sort of diameter are you talking about?

Nothing too thick, I'm not really planning on doing it yet, just wondering how capable they are. Guess I could just use the metal saw...

Honestly, the small Vic pliers and wire-cutters, while produced with typical Swiss craftsmanship and precision, are a light- to medium-duty tool.  I expect one could get through fence wire in a pinch with them, particularly if one were willing to sacrifice the tool, but I don't think they would be a good choice for regular cutting of fence wire.  Also note that they are not hard wire cutters, nor do they have a hard wire notch.

It will cut chicken wire just fine. If you are talking barbed wire, then its a no go. The jaws won't open enough to even get around it. But you can score barbed wire with a Sak file then snap it.

I've used it to cut through standard household wire BUT not in one shot.  It sort of cuts part way through, then your turn it over and clip at the other side and it'll go through.  This is probably about the thickest wire it could possibly cut and then only because the copper wire is pretty soft.
