MP400 sheath. Need help.
on: October 06, 2013, 01:32:30 AM
What is a good "slim" sheath that will fit a new MP400. I used to have a (older)  MP400 sheath and it was great. Very slim and fit the tool well. Sadly the sheath wen't off when I sold the other MP400. I just got a new MP400 and the sheath is terrible. Bulky in every dimension possible. I would not carry that sheath on my belt. So does anyone know where to get the older sheath or a new sheath (different brand) that is very slim and will fit the MP400. Thanks everyone.

Sure didn't. Might have to give that a go. I honestly have no idea what sheath i'm looking for though. I don't know how old the MP400 was that I got it with.

I was looking around and I have a Blast leather sheath that wasn't using. It looked like the MP400 would probably fit but it was slightly to long causing the button to not reach. Quick hole with a awl and it fits great. I actually can't believe how well it fits in there.  Exactly what I needed.   :drink:

That's good to know mate, especially as I didn't have another answer for you. ;)  Actually that's not entirely true; the old Nylon sheath from the original Multiplier (Mr Pinchy) is great for the MP400, though I don't suppose it's the easiest thing to get hold of.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Suggestion: get a round file and use it to turn that hole into a nice circle. Next try to find some plastic washer-like hollow piece to avoid it getting wider or cut while using it.

Nice fit!
I´m thinking of getting one for my MP 400.
I would put an eyelet into the hole to keep it from getting bigger and to get a "professionall" look.
It can be dobne with a hammer and a punch or piece of solid round bar to elongate the setting tool, the setting tools are usually included in a package of eyelets ( I use PRYM stuff).
And I would think about cutting teh sides out a tiny bit to accomodate the locktabs.

Do you know which LM sheath that is and do you mind me staling the Idea?

I think it will look great if you do it like that. No worries at all about stealing my idea. That's what the forums all about. Sharing ideas.  :tu:

The sheath came with a Blast so I believe it is this sheath as it is the only one on there website that is leather and accommodates the Blast.

Yeah, noticed that too. And it worries me. Hope they don't do another "upgrade" like the last time. ::) I'm still waiting for the option to download the whole album that's "coming soon".

 :twak: Don´t hurry me!
I´ll be stressed and shake while taking pics, making them all blurry.  :) See:

I got this old LM sheath off the bay:

First step was to replace the scratched up snap closure.

Then I looked for something to center teh hole punch inside the sheath.
I used a length of aluminium Motorcycle handlebar and six long 1/4 bits to fill teh sheath. The hole punch sat in the centre of the handlebar.

Leaving me with this:

With an eyelet it looked like this:

MP 400 fitted in LM sheath:

I trimmed the upper area as teh Locktabs of the tool would catch on the slope of the sidewalls.

Comparison with the stock sheath:

Thanks. I´m looking for some leather care to refresh the colour a bit as the sheath was quite worn to begin with...

How hard is it to replace the snap closure? Is your replacement a different snap that you took the paint off?

I left  the "inner part" where it was as it was functional. I only removed teh one on the flap with a sharp center punch and a side cutter.

You can buy snap closures (Major german manufacturer is Prym) where you can buy sewing supplies, usually they come with a die in the set to mount them.
They come in Nickel plated or brass, sometimes you can get BO ones, too.

I´ll take a pic of teh parts and steps, if you like.
