This is where I used to spend a lot of time when I was a lad.

It's a lot more touristy now with all mod cons but back in the day there was no running water or electricity and the sea crossing was made in a small open fishing boat. The wreck of HMS Drake , a WW1 battle cruiser lies close to in shallow water and a lot of cordite used to be washed ashore, great for fire lighting when it had dried out  :o >:D :D

A magical place Gareth with a tiny population of wonderful people who have strong links with Scotland. Lots of history and some amazing caves  :) I have a dinner plate from the messroom of HMS Drake, given to me by an islander who used to regularly dive the wreck.

Just thought I'd share a couple more pics from my most recent camping trip.  Up to the Scottish Highlands again and we set up a site for a couple of nights in a lovely river valley, snowy hills all around, wood for a fire, good company and OK weather.  Excellent trip for the most part.

A glimpse at our living area (the tents are out of sight), a comfortable log, a constructed wind break and a good fire.  What more could you really ask for? :D

If I get a copy of some of the shots my mate took, I'll also tell you about the slightly surprising final day. ;)

Here's a few more from my friend's camera;

First of, one to prove I really was there. ;)

What this shot doesn't really show is just how strong the wind was that day.  Stepping out of the lea of that wall and the wind really was trying to pick us up off our feet.

On the last day and heading home we found all the burns, streams and rivers were seriously swollen.  A couple of deep wades and a couple of detours and we thought we were home and dry (ish).

See this body of water?  Well you shouldn't. :-\  What you should see is a dirt track and some open farmland.  Happily we'd parked the car on higher ground and we weren't hemmed in, though it was a bit closer than I was entirely comfortable with.

Looks like it was a good trip,even if you had something of a close escape at the end!
There is no beginning,or ending,and for this we are thankful,cos now is hard enough to understand!
