Res Q Me clone at dollar store
on: May 22, 2008, 04:07:12 PM
Saw this yesterday and picked one up. From what I can tell it's identical to res q me (I don't have one, only comparing to photos), but don't know how it'll work since I don't have any glass to test on.

Try it on your finger.  If the tip comes out and you bleed instantly, it works.  :D

Nope, I got that one from Def.  Ask him about it sometime.  ;)

I carry a Res Q Me on the keychain but am really considering take it off the EDC duty.  It's very light, but just a little bulky.  I believe I've seen spring-loaded glass breakers that are much slimmer many years ago...

I'm not sure if it's worth EDC'ing.

I don't think it's worth carrying around. I leave mine hanging near the rear-view mirror on my car. That, i believe, is the best location if i ever need to use it.

And, it's accessible from both people in the front seats.  That's probably where mine will live soon.  I'm going to have to see if I can get ones that color match to my cars! :D

My only concern is that there's not usually much holding on the rear view mirrors, and it takes a good tug to get the ResQMe off it's carrier ring.  With my luck, I'll give it a good tug after an accident and knock myself out when the mirror whacks me in the forehead!

I thought about just leaving it somewhere in the car, but I always think "what if I'm the passenger in somebody else's car?"

I know, it's pretty unlikely statistically speaking that I'll be a passenger in somebody else's car that happens to get submerged under water or involved in an accident where I need to shatter the window glass...

I EDC mine as you never know when you might stumble across an accident involving someone else.

I always wished they'd put a replaceable carbide glass breaker tip on MT's.

I was thinking about getting the res q me tool but ended buying the benchmade ert-1 which has same functions plus little LED and is little bit bulkier for EDC.It has a good nylon sheath and think it's better to have something that won't slip through your hands in an emergency,I stuff it in the glove box(the one in btw the seats of my SUV)I believe that's good place, since you have an accident everything that is not hold secure inside your car will fly away.

The ERT-1 is also a great tool.  I like mine, and you are right about the sheath.  Failing that, you can use the clip to hook it to the sun visor for easy access.

I was about to clip it to the visor ,but do you think it will hold in a strong impact with a rollover?I'm afraid that if it flies around and you are trapped by the seatbelt you will have to use your teeth or trusty leatherman(if you carry one) :multi:it has strong clip but don't want to take the risk.

They make a much larger version for those who want to keep it mounted in the car.  I think it's called a LifeHammer, or something like that.
