18650 or cr123
on: November 18, 2013, 07:14:38 PM
Just picked up a Fenix pd35(actually a pd32 with a pd35 head that I happen to have access to), and I'm currently running surefire cr123's in it right now. Should I stick with these or order 18650's and a dual bay charger? I honestly know nothing about running 18650's, but have done some looking on here about them. Seems people are leaning more towards the 18650's. If I understand correctly they last a lot longer but the light won't be as bright? Also I would be ordering a QUALITY charger and 4 Quality batteries so I won't have an explosion.. What is my best bet if I do decide to get them? Brand, Mah..etc..

Thanks!

Josh

Go 18650, much more economical if you use the light a lot. Brightness remains the same.

I use a Pila IBC charger, and quality protected Japanese cells (cells are usually made by Panasonic). I have cells from 2 companies, AW and Eagletac.

Just picked up a Fenix pd35

What an incredible light that is.  I have been a flashlight fanatic for 20 years, and the PD35 still impresses me.  I run 18650s in mine, as well as several other lights like the also awesome Fenix TK22.  Just ordered a PD32 today for giggles, along with 2x 18650, another charger, light cone and diffuser.

I think the 18650s are great.  At 2600 maH (give or take), they pack a lot of runtime even at high output.  I think they are great.  Just get a quality protected brand like AW, Fenix, etc.  I've been running AW's for years with good success.  Rock on.

I have an Olight M21-X Warrior (crap name!) and I use Nitecore 3100 mAh in it. Coupled with the Nitecore i2 charger it runs like a dream.

The bonus with the i2 is it is 230v ac or 12v dc

I also do carry spare 123's as well, just in case

I prefer 18650s, and the  I4 Intellicharger
