The Parcel Hook in the Digital World!
on: December 07, 2013, 03:13:44 AM
Went shopping today and decided to buy a wireless printer and when I tried to pick it up using the handle build into the box I still had to deal with the security strap hurting my hand - so,

I pull out my Vic Climber   :climber: and TAA DAAH!  :tu:

Who says the parcel hook is "old fashioned" and has no place in our digital world?

I use the hook to pick up the dirty greasy grill on my bar-b-que grill to put charcoal in it. In the past I have used it to fish small wires from a hole in a wall. If you have it with you and use your innovative skills, someday you will find a good use for it. It is also well suited for lifting small pots with wire bails off of a back-packing stove; I'm not so sure that this wasn't it's original intended use. imho.

Water, water, every where,
 And all the boards did shrink;
 Water, water, every where,
 Nor any drop to drink.

Perhaps it began as a "field mod" during Swiss Army maneuvers?    ???

Like I said in more than one thread, I just love that hook and use it a lot. Every time I go shopping, it helps me carry all the plastic bags without cutting my fingers.

Actually, the original intention was to use it to scratch your back. But then they found out back-scratching works better with money than with a hook.

Later to evolve into boot licking and a** kissing I suppose. It actually came to me a while back that the first multitool may have been  a stick uses to get termites out of the mound AND a back scratcher.

The parcel hook can also be used in braiding (?) lanyards and such or making/repairing fishing nets, I think. If it comes with a pair of SAK mini-pliers that's even better, I think.

Who does these things nowadays, anyhow?

The SAKs and multitools are IQ tests- what can you do with what you have on you right now. The Hook is how you get extra credit.

Just tried picking my nose with the parcel hook. Accidentally gave myself a lobotomy.
