Remove the marlin spike and large blade and replace with an awl and scissors and you have the SAK I want.

Another update from +B Facebook page...file worked year stamped blades and blue Alox

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

The blue alox by itself looks great. Adding the red shield just makes it look like a test for colour blindness.

How can those be "Year stamped" if they don't say 14?  Hell, just make 5 of every year from 50-80, call them year stamped and then post:

"I have year stamped models from 1950 to 1980.  Message me about specific years."

What a great scam!  :ahhh

Yup a great scam indeed...
I'm guessing Victorinox still have a ton of year stamped blades and +B has access to them...just make up a brand new knife with a year stamped blade and sell it as vintage for big bucks ::)

I have watched videos of Rogers. I believe he does have a Victorinox machine. And he is a modded which is a bit hypocritical. I've watched a video of him building a custom model for someone.

Will he start selling alox scales?  That would be interesting.

What a great scam!  :ahhh

What's sad is people will still buy these. Because they're "limited edition" and from Swiss Bianco.  ::)

Doubtful. His position on the subject of modders is pretty clear and I doubt he'd want to 'enable' anyone. Victorinox probably wouldn't like him selling individual parts anyway.

The selling of backdated blades can quickly go down the slippery slope of scam territory. It only takes one time for someone to pass one of these off as a vintage knife.

I guess if the year marked blades end up in a custom knife or are fileworked etc
Then most people will know they are not original/genuine Soldiers - So should not be a problem??

Possibly SB even has an agreement with Vic that ensures he only uses the blades in his customs??

I have tried a few ways to get access to a Vic or Wenger machine.  So far I have not been successful :(

It would be sweet though!

Lets just say the local Wenger rep used to be the Vic rep, but Vic came in officially and cut their legs out from under them.  Now Wenger has gone under, and the rep is none pleased- fool me once...

It'd make sense if his name were Wilson, not Roger... I guess he really likes Tom Hanks.

These things are dumb...I'm kind of pissed.

Maybe that's a translation problem.  Maybe they meant to call them "Castoffs".

I just studyed this thread for the first time (I saw it from time to time but wasn't really interested in +B to read it) and it seems a bit awkward for a MTO thread. I mean, there are some ad hominem notions if I understand it right. I just want to express it.

Ad hominem would more so apply if the topic were something else. The criticisms of a person wouldn't be ad hominem attacks/arguments if the discussion were of that person to begin with.

Given his behavior and demonstrably questionable M.O., I'd say the remarks are fair and justified.

Perhaps they are. It is just my personal opinion. I am used to talk about SAKs and Multitools and other off topic inanimate gear but not people in MTO. Kirky is the main exception ofcourse. If that's OK with mods it is OK with me, I just felt the need to express my opinion.

+B is a bit of a strange subject for MTO, and even if you read all his posts, that don't show the whole picture. He used to be part of the staff and had his own board on MTO that is now gone. I know parts of what went down, but not nearly all of it. That was way before my time and most of the other current staff too. I know that long time members and some mods from back then don't think to highly of him. But that's all in the past and best left buried. :salute:

So much for the MTO part of it. As for members opinions and experiences, they have the right to express them as long as we all remain civil. :hatsoff:

Where? At their Facebook page they only show the Castaway in blue, red and Gold. A new Seaman would be good news.....don't like the Castaway >:(

It seems like unfair business practice for +B to continue getting sweet special deals from Victorinox when they shut down the special runs for everyone else. Great for those who want to collect. Sucks for others of us who were trying to fund a nonprofit charity. Sour grapes? Yes. End of rant.

He doesn't have a machine.  Victorinox makes the knives for him.  That video is of a SAK making machine that Victorinox brings along to shows.  In fact, I posted a video of that machine in use by a MTO member long before Roger did and he sent me an email telling me that Victorinox said I should take it down so that the Chinese don't see it and copy it.

I didn't, China has yet to develop their own and now he posts his own videos of it.
