Nice scales! Any chance we might be able to get some pics of them in action?  :pok:

From the CT41s? Probably not.  :dunno:  maybe if there’s an IT emergency. Or if I find one in more user condition...for like $30. But you are making me think about looking for the blue one.   Getting out of the box would be about it for that one.

Sorry, I should have clarified my request; I was speaking of the GITD scales themselves.

They are equally useful in my eyes.  I've carried the Swiss Champ everyday since I got it almost 2 years ago, but I recently started carrying the CT-41 just to change things up. Then, less than a month after switching I entered a challenge, so they've both been sitting on my desk for a month. Because I regularly carry a plier based tool along with a SAK I might have to give the nod to the CT-41 because the long reach driver is the only tool that is not redundant, however, I also kind of miss the magnifying lens and the olive fork.  At this point I'm voting Swiss Champ but I may change my mind after live with the CT-41 for a few months.

I just checked the poll results.  Pretty much a dead heat at the moment.  If the OP was trying to get the community's help to decide which one to get then I'm afraid we've been no help at all.  Best get both.

Interesting that the tide has tuned in favor of the Champs. Not much better than the early ones IMO. Anodized liners, 2.5mm pliers, gray magnifier bezel, long Phillips, no Hook,  Minty ‘86 copy posted below.

Sorry, I should have clarified my request; I was speaking of the GITD scales themselves.

Put one up in the mod forum in comis’ tutorial thread. Will have more from better (but darker blue) scales.

For outdoors activities like camping, hiking, etc, the Swiss Champ is king.

Around town though, I prefer the CTs... the CT-L. It's a Handyman with the bit driver, which is great for general handywork (I already love the Handyman). If you can get away without the saw and file, plus the chisel and extra SD on the back, then the CT-M makes more sense to me (one of my personal favourites and most carried).

Even the CT-Lite seems like a great idea since working with electronics may require a magnifying glass to identify parts and make inspections. It's a shame it's CAD $208.  :o

I also don't get why the CT-M is more expensive than the CT-L which only adds to it  ??? The bit driver has been very useful, in part for having such a well-made and precise phillips head. I used it as a last resort when precision screwdrivers were failing to remove some tiny and extremely fragile screws on a Nintendo Switch, and it saved the day. Well, the switch is still dead, but that's another issue.  :twak:

At the end of the day, the SwissChamp is the one that I would have to crown.

While they both look great in theory (looks and versatility) they are just overkill in reality IMO, too bulky and cumbersome for use (and carry).
For camping, if needed, It would make a lot more sense to take two sak's with the required tools, like an Huntsman and an Angler or Deluxe Tinker for example

If you're going to bring two, one must be a SwissChamp.   :twak:  :D

SwissChamp + FarmerX or SwissChamp RangerGrip 79 are very effective combos in the sticks.

I've been known to take the SwissChamp + Pioneer X combo into the sticks.  The saw on the SwissChamp is the same one that is on the Farmer X, and I happen to have a Pioneer X in my trousers most of the time anyway.

It's out there - the Swisschamp XLT (or CT 50 unofficially) comes so close as to make no difference. One of our particularly gallant knights is even EDC'ing one  ;)

I usually bring my SwissChamp on my belt and my RangerGrip 55 in my haversack when exploring in the woods. They haven't let me down yet.

I vote for Swiss Champ with less-than-$3 hex bit coupler on the inline Phillips. Opens up a world of possibilities...
SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive (2)
85mm: Traveler, Delemont S10, Bass
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox

Swisschamp for me.

I think it totally depends on your needs. I use every tool on the champ. Don't really need the bits for anything I do. I am far more likely to be out in the woods or on a lake than in an office or factory. I haven't even been to town in over a month! So for me the champ does what I need. I think I have 8 or 9 of them

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been ten years since I started this thread!

The poll is pretty much dead even, but for me it’s been the CT41 on a daily basis for a decade now. It’s just such a comfortable tool to use, with everything one might need.

I have a slight preference for the CT41, but I use the Swisschamp probably just as often.

The scaler is not a have-to-have, I prefer the bit driver layer over the Phillips/mag layer, but I'll admit that I use the magnifier more and more often as my eyes age.

Depends on the day/task at hand, but I'll put my money on the Champ most of the time. While the bit driver is great, it's hard for me to give up the scaler. It pokes, it prods, it's a fork, it's a "lockpick" for things like paper towel dispensers. I know it's not a super popular tool, but I honestly find myself using it more than most or all of the others on knives that have it. The ILP and mag layer are a nice bonus, and with a Minichamp, Executive, etc. on my key ring I have fairly good driver capability without the bit set.

Swiss Champ all the way and I've EDCed it for some time, now.
I have a CT-Lite and am right on the cusp of getting a CT-M, but the bit driver ultimately isn't as good as the ILP for the overwhelming majority of screws that I encounter. The other types such as hex bolts and torx screws are usually in sizes other than those for which the CT has bits, and I find myself having to carry a second SAK just for the ILP.
I also hate the ruby scales.

That is...interesting.  I find the polished edges of the ILP will cam out at a lower torque for screws that fit the ILP and the #2 Phillips bit.  Same goes for the polished Phillips driver on the Spirit.

Of course, I'll take either one before the backspring Phillips.

The 41 is the only CT that's worth it imo. All the others are too bulky from the driver relative to the functions of similar sized saks.

I respectfully disagree: the CT 41 is "just" an alternative to the SC if you prefer a bitdriver over the standard Philips plus magnifier. However, the CT 34 is quite unique: it's in fact a Deluxe Climber with added bitdriver. It's exactly as wide as the Champion and the Handyman and beats both of them hands down in an urban environment. And you can still carry it in your pocket (just), whereas the SC/CT 41 are just a tad too wide for my liking. It was my EDC for a long time and I really learned to appreciate it. Too bad people tend to overlook it on account of its price tag.

:iagree:  The CT34 is my favorite CT because it's such a great urban tool; especially for those of us who work on electronics and IT equipment.  It's a complete tool for the office environment, whereas the more traditional Champion is less focused on a particular use.

I use the CT29 a lot as well in urban environments, but I also carry a Passenger at times.  It's a Passenger with better driver functionality.  Having the bit driver near the center of axis of a relatively small SAK is ideal.

From various conversations, it seems British/European screws are somewhat different from American ones.
One of the reasons I don't own a Leatherman (Squirt doesn't count) PBMT is that most of the screwdrivers don't work with the screws I encounter. The wife has a Sidekick, but that just lives in a kitchen drawer somwhere.
