window breaker tool
on: December 15, 2013, 08:28:43 AM
Sage Forum : A few questions on window breaking .
Does the Rescue Tool window breaker tool (glass breaker tool) fit on any other 111 SAK ?( such as the Soldier 2008 )
Is there a loss of backspring tension when it's removed from the Rescue Tool.
Would an inline Phillips possibly break through glass (hopefully without closing on one's hand).
Any other ideas for improvising a window breaker would be interesting to hear.
You can skip rocks and bricks, they don't EDC very well.
Peace,

The Rescue tool´s window breker won´t fit any otehr 111 mm model without modding.I´ll pop it to check if the spring works without.
Cheapest method o EDCing one would be a spring loaded centere punch, methinks - Size of a ballboint pen and fairly safe to use.

I have a resqme. It's excellent, very light, and pretty compact. It is attached to our car keys. It was like maybe $8 or so? I can't recall now.

In theory, any tool where you can apply a LOT of force into a very small point, while not breaking the tool on the window would work. Like maybe the can opener on SAKs.

I would THINK that the locking flathead on 111mm SAKs should work, really.

But better (more certain) is a spring-loaded punch, like the Resqme.

Thank you for the information.
The Resqme is certainly interesting .
Seems to be less than ten dollars now and a very good item.
Stay Safe !

+1 on the Resqme, they also have a strap cutter and some are available with a (small)  LED light.  That toolset even qualifies them as a multi-tool  ;)

I just went and got mine from my van.  It looks like a genuine yellow Resqme but doesn't have any markings at all, so is presumably a knock-off (with the extra feature of a small LED light at the opposite end to the window breaker).

I can't find anyone selling mine, but this tool has similar functionality:

DX was selling the knock offs with LEDs but they pulled them, only one with a whistle there now. But considering the price of the original, and the fact that if I ever need this tool, I'll really NEED it to work properly, I'd always go for the tested original. And I did. :D Have a ResQme in both the cars attached to the gear stick. :tu:

The Benchmade Houdini has a LED though.
