Need a new walking pole!
on: December 30, 2013, 02:26:30 PM
I've been using treking/walking poles for years now, and now use one quite a lot due to my stupid foot and back, but my cheapie Vango one has finally let me down :(

I need an adjustable one as I tend to use it with different footwear so it needs to be fairly easy to adjust. I'm also 6'3'' so it needs to be pretty long too :) Ideally it should be freely available in the UK as I need it now rather than one in a month plus :D

Thanks in advance chaps :)

I have a set of 2 adjustable, collapsible Aluminium walking poles in the cellar - I´d send them over free if you pay shipping, but will have to evaluate if shipping makes this idea nonsense.

Leki makes a very lightweight adjustable set of poles which are extremely durable.  I've used them for mountaineering a couple times, too.

That's very kind of you mate, but just sending canes domestically costs about £8 so it'll be a fortune over the pond probably :(

But thank you for the offer :)

I've got a couple of Leki's on my Amazon watch list :)

I was just wondering if I could get an opinion from someone I can trust :)

Problem solved, cheers Nate :)

I'm guessing these are out of the question?  :D

Black diamond seems to be pretty popular with the backcountry/mountaineering crowd, their poles comes in 2 or 3 section and the metal flick lock (or whatever they are called) deploys quicker and holds stronger than the traditional twist lock. And if you desire, they also makes this version:

Hahaha!  I like the ice tool head!

It'd be good for self arrest on a low angle fall, but man, I wouldn't want to trust it on steep angle stuff: I don't think that shaft would hold up too well to repeat loads.. :ahhh :ahhh

I'd love a sword cane :D I've wanted one of those for years!

Might be a tricky one to explain to the old bill though :D
