Don't like copper or don't like working with copper?

You like brass better and does brass patina or show wear with age?

I don't like working with copper, and in my experience, brass is easier to shape. However, I did two SAKs in copper - a Compact and a Spartan, and both had the corkscrew cutout which was painstakingly difficult... The Bantam was as simple as it gets and it was actually really fun working on it

This mod looks great!
It might have looked even slicker without the outer liners considering that the 3mm thick brass scales could handle the whole thing :) (the alox way)

Would not having the liners add a lot of extra work to the brass or copper for the rivet holes?

I'd say yes, the rivet holes needs to be much more precise (if you're just gluing on a set of wooden scales It'd be ok to do them quite haphazardly). Second, you'd need to exchange the rivets for new ones (and the 2.25 mm is hard to find). Lastly you'd need to peen the rivets.

Ha right, the rivet size is a major issue
Precise drilling might be a little tricky without a bench drill or equivalent mount. The easier is to drill through one of the liners.
Peening isn't that hard and gives a nice touch, it just take some time

I'm pretty sure the result would worth the added difficulty ;)
