Watch Saga Continues
on: December 30, 2013, 02:48:38 AM
Well, after a 1.5 year flirtation with digital, I think I have found my way back to analog.

One thing that the Timex Shock and G-Shock gwm5610 that I have used have going for them is their light weight.  Even though it was hard for me to come to terms with the perception of plastic cased watches not being disposable, I eventually did, though I still preferred metal.  After wearing these two watches for most of the last 1.5 years, though, even my Citizen BN0000-04H diver felt heavy when I strapped it on.

Enter the Momentum Atlas!  I stumbled across this watch on WUS looking at pics of field watches.  One thing I really liked was the extremely good legibility, especially the full-lume dial version.  Also, the Ti case would certainly make it lighter, so I ordered one.  It got here a few days ago, and I am really digging it.  It feels like it weighs less than my g-shock, though I don't have scales handy to verify.

The cordura strap is very comfortable, and the slim, normal size of the watch makes it very unobtrusive.  I like the thoughtful details like the generously sized crown with knurling, but not too big to dig into the wrist. I also like that the caseback engraving is bright in the milled areas, giving it a good contrast.  Not a big thing, but it just makes it feel like they have paid attention to the details.

I have read many good things about their customer service.  As I understand it, Momentum is owed by St. Moritz, who made their name selling dive watches and are based in Canada.  They have a good warranty, and even have the option of sapphire crystal upgrades when you send the watch in.

I really though I was sold on the no fuss g-shock digital, but this has totally brought me back to my first love, simple 3 hand analogs.  So much so, that I will likely be parting with the G.

Anyway, enough blabbing and onto some pics.

Momentum makes fantastic watches, and the quality you get for the price is incredible.  I have a Momentum M1 on my wrist right now.

good choice!  :tu:

Another field watch fan over here. :D After my Seiko 5 became an inaccurate piece of junk, I strated searching for quartz field watches. I almost got a Momentum, but I settled on a Citizen Eco-Drive because I won’t have to change the battery.

I'm a big fan of the eco-drive tech, my diver has served me well for almost 7 years now. I looked hard at the citizen field watch, but the ti case, shorter screw down crown and the full lume dial tipped the scales for me to the atlas.

Their customer service is supposed to be outstanding, and I would imagine more so for you guys in Canada. I like the value for $ proposition of these watches, but also like knowing the company stands behind them as well.

If you send your watch to Momentum for service they'll renew the warranty regardless of age.

The battery free was what made me get my Seiko 5. I too am having some issues with the inaccuracy of it.
 :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I think I'm going to look for a Citizen or Casio solar next.
