Agreed. Maybe put washers under the screw heads to distribute stress where the screws meet the plastic scales.

Made an updated SlimJim, added an awl from a XE6.

I've never made a CE blade that is sharpened on both sides, so this is my first attempted at it.

I used the same process as making a chisel grind one I made for the squirt mods, except I repeated the same thing on the flip side of the blade.

Some close ups of the blade.

All done with a dremel, polished with a felt wheel and sharpened with a Lansky, finally a corner stropping with diamond paste.

NEW SCALES! Slim Jim S2
Reply #32 on: April 28, 2013, 12:21:20 AM
whoooooos ready for some glory shots of the fresh new Scales!?

After fiddling and working with the 3d printed steel scales, the back spring rest just wasn't strong enough to hold the very aggressive sprung springs, they cracked under the pressure. No matter, all I needed to do was to mill off the tab and use the new scales as a cosmetic/ergonomic detail.

I've always had a softspot for the Juice S2, but the finish and unevenness of the handles drove me nuts. Also, the can opener that has no reason to be there. This is as close to the perfect Juice S2 I could ever imagine (aside from 3D printed Titanium scales :))

Here we are!

The flat scales for the back side of were a tiny bit warped, but a few strikes with a hammer straightened them out. The cutouts for the inside tools match very closely to the stock S2 scales.

Although the 1/8" pivots strike me as too small for a MT, they seem adequate for light to medium duty. The size of tool won't allow for heavy work anyways.

The scissors are usually hit or miss on a Juice, a little bit of sharpening, honing and adjustable tension pivots, these scissors are hard to beat for the size of tool.

The scales come rough and textured like the recesses, a little bit of surface milling plus some 400 wet sanding reveals the MQB and SLIM JIM lettering (in bold helvetica of course)

The chamfered edges make for a VERY comfortable grip (used it today to install some closet shelving)

I had already made the medium driver into an awl so I kept it there, for those of you who don't know, I made it with a 3/16 carbide ball mill so it has a wicked edge that can be sharpened.

The only thing I would do differently or more is get a set of tools BO'd and get another set of scales to get cerakoated black. Maybe an area for bit storage and the bit adaptor.

Oh yah...and a pocket clip!

I was bored. I needed to practice. I am thinking of putting the full SE blade into this final tool.

Hey there! Love what you've done! I thought I was the only other person to have moded a juice. Check mine out and you may get some good ideas, too. I combined a juice, and freestyle with a few others.

I'm going to work on it again (or a new one). This time I plan on ordering proper pivots and I'll be working with several more multi-tool's parts. I plan on making one squir/dime/clutch sized and one juice/freestyle/crucial tool sized.

That being said, can you tell me the squirt pivot size? I really like your scales. Have you thought about making some with grooves for SAK tweezers and most importantly toothpick? I want to buy your scales, but don't have a way to print them myself. Would you be willing to print and ship them (for a price of course)?

Thanks Lowtek! Actually that answered my question about the squirt pivot size (1/8 in), but then I now wonder what the correct pivot size is for a juice?  Also, the site doesn't have the juice scales.

IIRC, the Juice line does use the same pivot size as the Squirt. It seems Metro was not completely satisfired with dfit and finish of teh Juice scales, but maybe he shares the file if you send him a PM?!

Hey guys!

Yah, I was not impressed with the fit and finish but I knew there would be a lot of work involved.

The Juice shares the same pivot size, and they are only available in 1/2" length so any longer and you'll have to so the Syph007 splicing trick.
