Hello from NJ
on: January 22, 2014, 08:03:38 PM
Good afternoon MTO.

My name is Joe and I lurked the forum a couple years before joining.  I am happy to be on board as a member.

I just completed a pretty big garage sale in the trade forum, but I kept the tools that best fit my needs. I look forward to chatting about them and offering up my reasoning.

Quick history...

I received my first multitool for my 12th birthday. My grandfather, who passed away last year at 92, gifted me his Victorinox Swiss Champion. I am now 30, and it is still one of my favorite gifts ever. I've done some research, and it looks to be circa 1985 or 1986. It has the mag glass and inline Phillips (7 layer), but no utility hook on the back. I have kept it in original maroon box and it includes all the original documents.  My favorite tool, and far too meaningful to carry.

Flash forward...

Despite unloading about 75% of my collection in the past week, I held on to my favorites. I liked the idea of keeping one tool in each size range from both Leatherman and Victorinox.

So the survivors were:
Heavy Duty (4.5 inch, + 10 oz , best for sheath) - New Surge and Swisstool X
Full Size- standard duty (4 inch 6-8 oz best for cargo/carpenters pocket) - New Wave (my first LM, dated 2007) and Swisstool Spirit X
Full Size "Lite" (4 inch 4-5 oz best for back pocket carry) - Skeletool and Vic Centurion (may replace with new Soldier)
Pocket Size (sub 4 inch, 3-5 oz best for front pocket) - empty (jury is still out on LM juice reboot, but leaning toward CS4), Vic Huntsman is in transit

I find the keychain tools a bit too small for tasks in my typical day, so they are absent from my rotation. Finally, I have a silver ALOX pioneer for those occasions that call for dress pants.

Thanks for reading,
Joe

welcome mate

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Bedminster NJ, originally from Toms River. Wife is from Holmdel and we met, graduated, and got married at Rutgers U.

Despite the jokes, I can't leave this place.
