What does the handle for the scissors look like on that one? Cos the only thing i can think of is that it helps to push the scissor handle over the lock release spring so as not to damage either bit

Apparently none of the three Spirits I have are old enough as I don't have that on any of them.  That's odd, since one of the Spirits I have is an early one that we used for the Spirit Trail pass around on SOSAKOnline shortly after they were released.

Mine has it, but is not in the side of the Scissors, is in the blade side.
I bought two from Amazon in March 2005 for $37 for each one with free shipping, this is my EDC and the other one is brand new in box in my safe.
You can see in SPOONROBOT TOPIC that is not in the side of the scissors too:
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,3609.0.html
I will post a pic later of mine.

Well I got a reply back today from Victorinox .

Dear Mr Moore,

The raised bump of metal by the lock release had something to do with the position of the blade when it is closed. It is optimised now by the case of the spirit.

If there is any further information that you require do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

I'm having a hard time understanding this, because I can't see where the blade (or any other tool) and the metal point met!

I know what you mean and I'm still thinking about it . What we really need is someone with both types that can do side by side photos .

I have a thoery, Vics are so Meticulous and precise on the manufacture of their tool, that those bumps or extra metal are counter weights to balance their tools precisely.
Multitools are the best thing that happened to mankind since the invention of the wheel!
