Keychain tools and smaller
on: May 26, 2008, 06:25:53 PM
Hey what has everyone been edcing on there keychain lately?  Also what other smaller tools do you carry SAKs too?

Mine are a utili-key and a M4 sebertech on one keychain and on my other set I have a Swisstech also sometimes I carry a p-38 with me.  Haven't been carrying a dedicated knife lately just a MT.(except for work) :D

I carry the typical LM Squirt P4, S4, and Micra on my different sets of keys. I used to carry a Vic Midnite Manager which was great for that pen, emergency red light, and Phillips eyeglass screwdriver.

I also have on the main keychain:

Res-Q-Me window breaker/seatbelt cutter
Fenix E01 flashlight (21 hours on a single AA)
Fauxton light
Bison aluminum pill capsule

My next area of investigation is for me to try and consolidate all the grocery store keychain size member cards I have on the chain and for me to finally make my own version of the Leatherman Keychain Micra (where you grind off the excess parts of the key and tuck them into the Micra shell as key tools).

When I I'm in clinical rotation for school (in a hospital) I just carry my P4 in pocket. I doubt I'd get in trouble for carrying a Juice, but I'd still always think twice before using something with a "large" ( ::) ) blade.

Keychain (carried in left trouser pocket):
-Keys
-Gerber Clutch (amazingly compact)
-Generic coin cell light (compact and superlightweight)
-P38 canopener (compact and lightweight)

Right trouser pocket:
-SAK (usually a small Tinker)
-Small "tactical" knife (lightweight, one-hand-opening, clipped to pocket)

I don't actually attach anything to my keys (apart from my ResQMe) but as for keychain type items, I carry a Micra and also a Fenix P1D CE

I've been toting around a Wenger Swiss Clipper for a few weeks now. To be honest it is the most useful EDC tool I've ever received. I work with my hands and tend to unconsciously pick at my chipped nails over the course of the day leading to a lot of small cuts and snaggy nails. Carrying around a nail clipper really helps clean things up when I'm not close to a regular set.

By and large I don't really attach pliers-based tools to my keychain. They're usually too large/heavy and are an unnecessary duplicate of other tools I carry anyway.

I have on my chain a Vic Sportsman. I tried the little classics and even the Micra, but found them all lacking. Now I just carry the Vic, and the Tritium capsill.

Plus I can just tuck the sportsman into my pocket and leave teh keys out of the pocket, and I have no problem with anyone thinking I am carrying somethign I should not.

Like the day I took my Leatherman into Logan Airport.

The elusive mini  :o I can't seem to touch one on Ebay with a 10 ft pole.  In some ways I really want one and other ways I just don't really know.  How do you like yours?  Apparently good enough to carry I guess ::)

As a stand alone tool,it leaves a lot to be desired. But it shines as a compliment to another tool or SAK.It's positively the most pocketable tool with full size pliers that I know of.

I try to be a very well equiped minimalist.  So the lighter and more compact the better I will carry it :multi: Anything small like the utili-key catches my attention  :twak: and get me to  will I use it and will it be useful  :D
