The Mushroom Knife
on: August 04, 2017, 08:41:46 AM
Here I go with a nother unusual specal use knife. This time it is a "mushroom knife". As the name suggests this is for mushroom harvesting.  The curved blade hooks through stems and the brush is used to sweep away any dirt on the caps. As for the ridges I saw both with and without while IDing this knife and am not sure they serve a purpose though they are sharp enough to scrape stuff with. It is a slip joint with a lanyard eye as part of the backspring next to the pivot.

This particular knife was TSA seized so I have no clue who made it. I did find a German websight selling an almost identical one with some sort of ruler like markings on the scales. The only marking on mine is "Stainless" & "Rostfrei" which is kind of redundant saying stainless in two languages but not a maker.

I am not a mushroom hunter but this may see other use if my wife gets her herb garden going.

Pics are with my Vic Trekker for reference.

interesting ???

the hooked part might not be ideal but it could be used as a BBQ knife with a basting brush.  :ahhh

The brush is for clearing soil remnants before putting the mushroom inside the net.

The rule markings help measure mushrooms.  I believe In some places it is illegal to harvest wild mushroom under a certain size.   It could also be used for measuring truffles.

Most major Finnish knife brands have a mushroom knife in their catalogues, mushroom "hunting" is popular here :)

Here's one from Marttiini
