send me your sak blades
on: February 19, 2014, 08:04:09 PM
I'm working on trying some different grinds , tips and file work on sak blades.

I'm hoping that someone has some extra I can use to practice on.

I really don't care what kind of shape they are in

I plan on ruining them in the name of learning.

I would prefer to practice on real blades I tried with a few different things most are much softer than the sak blade like butter knives or cheap look alike Saks

thanks for reading

That's a good way to get skilled up on filework especially. Practice on easy material, then harder and finally real SAK's.

There are several old table knives in my cutlery draw with half-arsed filework on their spines. ::)

I did try to use some kitchen cutlery but mine is all to soft or thin.

ok and it pisses my wife off to.

she says that they need no modification. I got told to leave them alone. She also doesn't like them to sharp  that I can't understand. There is no such thing as to sharp.

All sak blades small and large one hand opening or not.

broken tips , messed up edges, scratched to smurff, all should work great.

hopefully Il have one or two nice ones but I'm really just looking for practice fodder.

I'm also going to be investing in a diamond needle file set. I seem to go through them
there made out of fricken diamonds how the Smurf do I wear them out so fast

I practiced this before I started  regrinding and re shaping knives with broken tips. And a some bigger knives with bent tips I turned into clip points pretty much had to since some where quarter inch thick. Next up someday I may build a forge and try carving away billets with a file...maybe lol. Good luck and try going to a thrift shop any blades with broken tips and such shouldn't cost much
I don't know yet
