The Newer Victorinox file
on: February 22, 2014, 06:48:01 PM
I LOVE the newer Victorinox file, and am amazed at how well it works, so I decided to do what I do, and use a Vic Mag glass to get a closer inspection.  I was amazed at what I saw, and then (doing what I do,,, again) I took pictures through the mag glass.

notice the breaks in the file lines, like little cutters  (hard to see, the other side showed up better)

this side, has holes,   no wonder it works well it is like a grater
what I see is more impressive than the pictures, if I had a better camera, I could get better pictures of this, so if anyone out there would like to do that, that would be appreciated.

If I can help, let me know

I agree.  The new Vic file is much more aggressive than the old one, yet it can still be used as a fingernail file.  Really a great improvement.

Same file texturing I see on the OH Master and Spirit RT/X. It's a really wicked file.

All Spirits I've seen have this grind.  I believe it originated with that tool.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the Vic file as well.  The file on my OHMasterRT certainly looks like a beast :tu:

I love the new vic file. It makes me not want to carry the ones with the old file so they haven't gotten enough attention lately.

When I was in assorted workshops doing my Engineering apprenticeship, decades ago now, such files were referred to as "cross-cut".
From about 1/3 the way down the Wikipedia page:
""A single-cut file has one set of parallel teeth while a cross-cut or double-cut file has a second set of cuts forming diamond teeth.[1]""

Most multitools have cross-cut (double-cut) files.  Even the PST file has single-cut teeth on one side, double-cut (or cross-cut) on the other.  I don't know how this new file would be classified, but it's different from a normal cross-cut. It's really more of a single-cut file with shallow notches cut across the single-cut edges.
