DAK My first alox

I think I see what the Alox fuss is about but I'm not sure I can give up my scale and back tools for EDC. The extra beef and snap on all the tools is a definate step up and I really like that that Vic didn't tumble all the edges off the tools.

Do all the 93mm knives have the openers left as they came off the grinder or is this just a Soldier trait? I also seem to recal seeing one that had the inside of the cap lifter sharpened but don't remember if it was Vic or Wenger. Anyone give me a brief lesson?

All older 93mm opener tools have the machining marks (early '90s and prior).  Since then, they are polished like all the 91mm tools.

The scraper on the inside of the caplifter was prior to that...  I don't know the specific date range for that, though.  I believe I have a '90 hollow-rivet  Vic Soldier that has the scraper.

A DAK is a damn nice first Alox.  But be warned... it will be the first of many.

Had the same dilemma, a 58mm cured the scale tool problem for the most part, or a Swisscard would work too, they have all the scale tools and scissors to boot, but a little bulky for the old wallet. Still trying to figure out a good corkscrew setup though... :think:

I suspect I'm too cheap to accumulate many of these. This was $25 US to my door so I had to give in. I thought the price stayed low due to a poorly worded auction listing but it may because of the collectors knowing it was missing the key ring.

I still like it. The 91mm knives that I carry in my most days have had their rings ground off so I guess I can't be too annoyed with the previous owner

I suspect that it was the poorly-worded auction.  I find some gems that way on occasion.

Oh, how I miss the days of 7-8 years ago when you could easily buy a $12 DAK on ebay, a brand-new blue Farmer for $20, or even a vintage Pioneer or Farmer in the $20-30 range.

Those days are now gone, it seems.  :cry:

Congrats on the DAK-they're really nice tools.
I think the last year made with the scraper was 90 or 91. My dad's Soldier is from this era and has the sharpened edge, it's a really useful tool compared to the little wire stripping notch
