French Alox Classics?
on: March 02, 2014, 07:15:21 PM
On the SAK wiki there's line in the classic page (http://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Classic):

Quote
Alox Scales: 2013 France Limited Edition colors were red, brown, blue, and dark-blue (gunmetal-blue)

I've been out of the SAKs a little bit so I was trying to search for some pictures on these but can't find them anywhere.  I'm a 58mm collector primarily so this is right up my alley.  Anyone know where to see/buy them?

Thanks.

Here's an old listing from PRIXCANON for price reference.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321084715047

They seem to be currently out of stock on a lot of things but they are the best place to buy them, hopefully they will re-stock soon.

OK, this is weird. I can't see that listing when I look at the store or items available. I only see 24 listings for the whole store. Only this direct link works.

Wow... those are not cheap.   :-\  I first thought it was $34 for the set and I was going to be all over it... but $34 per knife.  That's more than I hoping.  Still... it's hard to pass up.

I think it's because it's from the french eBay site... but I dunno.

Nevermind... you already discovered that.  :)

I picked up a couple and if you ask they will ship together and you will save some money.  Expensive, yes but I did not want to wait forever to see if they would show up here on ebay at a reduced price.

Yep... I got the red, gunmetal grey, and brown shipped to me recently.  Those are in the Alox colors thread.  The red is a hair darker than the standard red Alox from what I can tell.  I can't say for 100% sure if this is just a change in pigment or a designed change for these to look different.  I ended up splurging and getting the blue one too now.  I'll compare against other blue that I have to see if it's a different shade too.

Yes, the blue is slightly darker. I bought a complete set when I saw them last year(?). Expensive, yes. But I'm glad I bought them.

I should have just gotten the whole set to begin with but I didn't know if the blue and red were different colors then standard blue and red when I ordered 'em.  I got the red because I wanted two red Alox 58mm anyway and figured it they were the same color one would end up in my 58mm models case and the other would end up in my 58mm alox colors case.

Thanks for the links to the French Alox classics.   I just ordered a Brown and Gunmetal!  They Cost me 78 bucks but like Red Ramage, I am trying to collect all the Alox classics!!

I saw a Blue and Red version from this seller:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321309763230?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Are the Red and Blue from this seller Standard Blue and Red and different from the French Blue and Red?

A wise man speaks few words

The French Alox Red does appear to be a darker red than the standard classic.  Take a look at this post:  http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,50959.msg871270.html#msg871270

Can't say on the blue yet as I haven't received it.

Okay, got my French blue today and the blue is definitely different and darker than the standard blue.

I've attached a pic of the blues as well as the reds.  In both cases the French Alox color is the one to the right.
