I "need" a new flashlight...
on: March 06, 2014, 04:05:55 PM
So... I've had the Olight S15 Baton for a while now, and though I really like it, I think I'd like another, that's a bit better suited for my needs... So, I was thinking, what my "perfect" flashlight would look like.

First thing I like about the S15 is it's form factor in combination with it's brightness. High level on this one is 280 lumens according to the factory, and that's really plenty. I also really like the ui, where you hold the button to scroll through the modes, and, even better, you don't pass the strobe when you switch modes :)

What I don't like, mainly, is the side button. I've had multiple times where it turned on in my pocket. Second thing is the pocket clip is slightly on the tight side, but that's not too bad.

So... What my perfect flashlight would be:

- 2 modes, high of above 200 lumens, low below, say, 30?
- rear clicky switch. I like one handed operation, I don't like turning heads so much, for putting the light on, or for switching modes.
- 1 AA battery. Readily available, sort of compact as well, but not too small.
- pocketclip, preferably a deep one

I think that's it... So, does my "perfect" flashlight exist?

Have you looked at Zebralight's? Other than the rear clicky, the SC52 exceeds your requirements. And it is on sale right now! I wasn't sure about them, but after I got my hands on one I was sold. After more than a year with it, I'm wondering why I own other flashlights. They never get used.
I EDC'd a SAK before MacGyver did...

I'll echo the sentiments of the Zebralight SC52. The SC52w is my main carry light, and has been for a long time. It does everything. Sounds like it will fit your needs, and is worth every penny.

Here's my review on it.
"If you put Bacardi in my glass again and try to tell me it's rum, I will burn this bar to the ground!"

I'm actually struggling to think of a two mode light that is controlled from the tail switch.  Give me some time, I'll come up with something (or if I wait long enough someone else will bail me out).

BTW, are you using 14500 cells or AA?

One that I like the look of for you is the Thrunite T10S.  Has a very high "High" given that it's running on AA cells (169 lumen), a medium level of 20 lumen, and a low mode of 0.2 lumen.  Yes, it's a three mode light, but I think it comes close in all the other departments.
