Swiss Toll plier question
on: March 18, 2014, 09:23:15 AM
I own a Swiss Tool that gets used a lot, but I've never really used the pliers.  I have noticed though that the pliers are becoming much looser to open and close (no lateral play at all) is this normal side effect of general use, or something I may need to keep an eye on folks?  :)

Most tools (pliers, inner tools, oho knives, etc) on MTs tend to loosen up with use and maintenance. As long as there is little to no lateral play in the plier head, you should be good to go. I've got a few with a little side-to-side wiggle and they still work fine.

To add to Toolslinger, All mine that are used regularly are loose but have zero lateral play.  My Surge that I got used was stiffish and since has loosened quite a bit.  I bought my wave new and its loose but not sloppy.  I have a Japanese PST that I can flip open like a butterfly knife but has zero lateral play.  Lastly I have a Swisstool with a 98 head that I also got used and it too has loose pliers.  Let me mention that these tools dont flop open ( JPST excluded ) but once opened can be flopped by holding one handle.  I hope this helps.

+1 Aloha007.

The only ones that have lateral wiggle are my Gerbers, but they have a bit of a reputation for being a bit wobbly/rattly. All of my LMs and Swisstools are fine with differing levels of looseness depending on their age and amount of carry/fiddle time.
