Wenger blade bent
on: March 16, 2014, 09:24:29 PM
I bought a new knife this week, but I don't want to throw the old one away. Got it from my dad in Switzerland about 20 years ago. I can clean it up, polish the scales and oil everything but I have one problem. The blade is bent…
Is there a way to fix this?

Sorry, bad picture, but you can get an idea…

Send it back to Vic, or very carefully fix it yourself.

Send it back? I don't have a receipt anymore. Busted the blade up myself, don't think it's warranty right?

You will be surprised what Vic will fix. The warranty is for the knife itself. You don't need a receipt.

I would either leave it as is or try and bend it back yourself. Kind of hard to tell how bad the damage is from the picture though. You do run the risk of snapping the blade.

Lock the blade into a Vice and then tap it with a rubber mallet till it goes true again.

Gonna try that. Maybe if it's fixed I can carry it at work.

In the worst case scenario get another used tool and swap the blades.

I agree with the suggestion to send it back to Vic.  However, since the knife has sentimental value, be sure to note this on the warranty form, as well as that you want it returned to you even if it is not repairable.  Otherwise, they may simply discard it and send you a replacement.

This is a vice:
