See i read that as they are just lowering the age limit at which you can be prosecuted for the offence not that you can't carry a knife at all. To stop us carrying sub 3" non locking knives they would have to change Section 139 of the criminal justice act which this doesn't do. At least thats my take on it

With all the hype thats going on at the minute, if a copper see's that you have a 3" blade on you, he'll do you for it.
"We are not out to criminalise people who have a good reason for being in possession of a knife, but frankly what good reasons would a youngster have for even carrying a penknife?"

But NEVER for any criminal activities. I feel so bad for you guys over there.
The idiots are out again. As the Bobbies can not stop kids going around killing each other we are now to get-http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7436141.stm

With all the hype thats going on at the minute, if a copper see's that you have a 3" blade on you, he'll do you for it.I believe it's that hype that is the reason many of those youngsters are carrying knives. There is so many long running stories about kids being attacked I believe it frightens the life out of the others. As it did not help the kid in the story by not having a knife they decide to carry one. With little or no guidance of what a knife is capable of it can end in tears. I just hope Roadie is right but history in this country does not back him. It seems to be a common action these days to bring out laws that are guaranteed to be fought over in the courts not just a plain 'thou shalt not kill'. That article starts "Anyone aged 16 or over in England and Wales who carries a knife could be taken to court, under new guidelines for police and prosecutors." nothing about being over 3" just any knife. It would suprise me if that is not exactly what it means. The locking blade was brought in because a judge thought a locked blade was the same as a fixed blade so treat it the same. It is/was not written in law.DaveAnyhow I am still going to buy a Cricket (Spyderco serrated variety)
I'm not panicking, I just see it at the start of a very slippery slope

On this note, I have a question. Are people in the UK put off of buying OH blades and MT's because of this? TBH I am quite aware of it and when I am looking into OH openers I look for those with thumb studs which can always be removed.
