Plierench Size Matters
on: March 28, 2014, 04:22:22 AM
I landed a 7 inch Plierench set.  It arrived Monday.  This is the smaller size manufactured starting in 1932-3.

The smaller size is greatly desired and it is difficult to locate an entire starter set with all three jaws.  Even harder to find is the small carry pouch.  This set has everything.

The three jaws are for nuts, pipes and wires.

The third photo is a comparison shot of the 8.5 inch Plierench and the 7 inch.

The second photo is a group shot of all my 7 inch Plierenches including the Masterform and Nopak versions.

Do you folks ever see these on your side of the pond Tony? They are just about the coolest thing. Quick-size-adjust, outstanding leverage, and interchangeable jaws. Built like a tank too. :salute:

Great score on the full 7-inch kit there Lyndon! :tu: Like you mentioned, the 8-1/2 inch size is far more common. It took me a long time to finally land a 7-incher, and it is just a bare minimum tool, without the extra jaws and the pouch, and I considered myself lucky to find it. :) Come to think of it, those might be the first extra 7-inch jaws I've ever seen...?

Ah yes, we have (had?) almost the same pliers over here. Sometimes called Bernard pliers, sometimes Schollhorn, sometimes Sargent. The most common version I've seen has a set of wire cutters mounted along the side:

Maun cutters were considered some of the best when I first started work, I think they were overtaken in popularity by insulated cutters

I've managed to avoid becoming a collector of these so far  :ahhh
